the sand makes it very difficult for adult fungal gnats to lay their eggs, while also creating a very dry top soil dehydrating the eggs already planted. after doing this i will let the soil dry for about 4 days but about 3 hours after laying the sand down all of the gnats were out the potters...

thanks resinous, they get a lot of sunlight too and i got a few CFL as well. nothing beats the real thing though they are much more active in the morning and as soon as the direct sunlight is off them they start to slow down.
