As much effort is necessary. Obviously, I have no idea how to build. If anyone wants to spell it out to me, that would be kool. Cost efficiency is my second concern. Quality is #1. Labor involved is irrelevant.

Would you recomend something other than 3/4 pressure treated considering costs? I am on the coast, so moisture is a concern. I've basically wrote off the particle board as a dream to my pocketbook and a nightmare in real life.

Well you have to consider safety in two terms: Safety against being caught VS. Safety of suspicion. Both are disastrous, but being caught is obviously worse. Why not have a NORMAL bedroom lock? Same security against unforced entry, and 0 suspiciousness. Just think of making your place look...
