    has anyone put together the different lifetimes of the 3590s at 700, 1400mA, 1750, 2100, and higher?

    i've always run them at 1400 but i am considering the higher amperages for more brightness and I'm just trying to get my head wrapped around the disadvantages of doing such. you know, aside from the additional heat i'll have to manage. any insights you can offer is greatly appreciated

    Heat will the be the ultimate factor in lifespan. Technically a higher current than 1.4 amps up till the Max current can have a life just as long, but you will expand your energy usage exponentially to cool, as you continue to run higher and higher currents. Math all in the datasheets technically. I still think 5-10 years is an easy reality even with uneven cooling. Later.
    Right now im about to create a 8x8 sealed room and want to make sure i have more useful lights than 4 1000 hps can give me. im here from this thead

    So in terms of 500 watts in your 4x4 can it at least equal a 1000 watt light? whats the weight you got on that sq area using 500watts of cobs? in the area of 4x4 with cobs vs traditional hps are you getting the same yield per sqft?

    also how long do you veg for using dwc buckets i think 9 plants in a 4x4 is kinda overkill but since you did 9 plants you should be able to flower after like 1-2 weeks in veg. you should top the plant once it has like 5 nodes. dont waste time vegging longer you the net would only need to be about 12-15 inch from top of bucket and can be spread more evenly

    you should have also trimmed the lower part earlier cause those stems are like a jungle and is wasted energy that could have been spent on the branches that you keep. i dont like doing big plants as it waste electricity and time you get more for your electricty using more plants spread out evenly with a short veg time.but anyway i cant see anything on the thread regarding my initial questions

    Just do a 3x3 layout for 9 cobs. And my layout is perfect. I do not get hot spots.

    what would your thought be on the HLG320 series - I'm looking to set up my first diy and wondering if it may be better to go with the 320 over the 185? thinking 4-6 cobs - and haven't decided on driving straight, have had some recommend 1050, others 1400, a few 2100 ... ill be starting a grow for medicinal purposes, so this is of importance to me

    I'd go with the 2100. The more light the better. You can ALWAYS DIM but you can't go brighter if you don't have the mA to begin with

    Hey Airwalker, thanks for the tip on using the M3 self-tap screws from ebay and a 7/64 drill bit in order to not have to tap. Did you have any issues with the heads of the screws ripping off when hand screwing in? I did a test-screw and it was a bit tight and I broke off the head while unscrewing it.

    Yes, you need to use one screw to make the threads, then another to mount it. Just turn until there's some tension, then back up a 1/4 turn and continue on. It will work out trust me.
    Airwalker can you tell me what happens when you string two different hlg drivers? Hlg185-1400 and hlg240-1750? I'm thinking this may be best to run 8 Vero29 if drive currents leveled out.
    Hey AW, I know you're a fan of self tapping screws. Do you need to drill a pilot hole the same length and size of the screw? I know that sounds dumb probably but... Thought I'd ask.
