do i have to get all the root matter out of hydroton before reusing?

At the end of my grows I flood my ebb and flow making sure that none of the solution flows back into the Res which makes it easier to pull the rootball out of the pebbles.I then administer 2ml of Hydrogen Peroxide per litre of Res solution and flood and drain continuously for five cycles which...

    flushing question

Yes the plants will lighten in colour towards the end of the flush, just make sure you do not chop early make sure that the pistills have receeded and the pods have swollen. http://www.advancednutrients.com/hydroponics/products/final_phase/final_phase_product_information.php

    flushing question

False information as I too use Final Phase during flushing and even Advanced Nutrients tell you not to PH your water during the flush.

    flushing question

There is no point whatsoever in flushing with ph'd water, as ph up or down are used to help the plant take up nutrients the exact opposite of what you want when flushing. Straight water that has been standing at room temp will do the job.

    Final Phase -Advanced Nutrients.

I use Final Phase and find that it really does do the job in making my weed taste considerably better than just plain water flushing.Use 2ml per litre for just six hours of irrigation then replace the solution with fresh standing water excluding PH adjustment and carry on flushing till chop...

    Keeping air stones in place

For the first time I am using a 24 inch wand air stone which I place in the middle of my Res and the distribution of bubbles that come out make this product better than the round ones that I usually use. No problem with weight either when placed in the bottom of my Res it stays put.

    Getting PH stable ?

It is well known fact that the smaller the litre capacity of your Res will result in the difficulty in getting your PH stable. So with you only having 10 litres of solution the PH will always fluctuate.

    final flush

PH up and down are only used to control plant nutrient uptake so the when you are trying to stop the plant taking nutrients like when you are in flush there is no need to add any form of PH managment. And why would you want to add chemicals when your goal is to achieve removal of chemicals.

    final flush

I use Final Phase on all of my grows and would administer 2ml per litre of solution 4 to 10 days before chopping. It is simple just put the required amount of Final Phase into your solution and let it irrigate for 6 hours, then remove the solution and add fresh water and carry on flushing till the...

is this the meter for me?

I paid £70.00 for my nutrient meter over six years ago but the prices have come down since then.Basically you pay for what you get and if you decide to go for a pen meter you can be assured that they will not last over two years whereas the truncheon will last a life time so the more economical...

is this the meter for me?

I would stay well clear of Hanna meters or any of the other pen type meters that are currently on the market.Hanna meters are not made to last and I know because I have had four of them and both the TDS and PH versions are a total waste of money. If you are looking for a nutrient meter go for the...

Looking for more Pointers on hydroponics

Yes.......You should definetley invest not only in an EC meter but also a PH meter too if you want your grow to run smooth. And you can top up your Res with fresh water when the level goes down but there is no need to empty the full Res before doing so.I also use a 50 litre Res and I use 2 large...

    Germinating Seeds Ebb and Flo

Germinate your seeds in starter cubes which measure around 1 and a half inch (36mm) square and when roots start to show through the rockwool place the cubes into bigger cubes which measure 3 inch square. When roots show through the bigger cubes then it is time to put them into your ebb and flow...

    Germinating Seeds Ebb and Flo

I use similar lights to what you are using but mine are cool flourecants and there are 4 x 55w housed in a reflector very similar to the one you are using.I actually veg all the way up to flowering with these flo's and never find heat or stretch an issue and if I was you I would ditch the halide...

    Germinating Seeds Ebb and Flo

I use jiffy pellets but I would use the same method if Iwas growing in Rockwool.I would soak my small rockwool cubes in PH adjusted water at 5.5 give them a squeeze and place directly into a propagator with vents shut and place into a dark airing cupboard with temps around 25c and humidity as...

new to hydro ppm is way up +rep 4 help

Maybe your meter needs calibrating,I use a Truncheon which does not need any calibration but if you use one of those pen type things you will need to calibrate it with Conductivity solution.

new to hydro ppm is way up +rep 4 help

If your PPM is rising then it is the plants telling you that they have enough nutes and need more water, but yours is jumping from 1000 to 1800 which is quite a significant rise. How are you plants looking are they showing any signs of overfeeding if they are not your meter could be dodgy or as...
