this video is game changing for indoor growing wow. minute 17 is about the effects of different photo periods for flowering indoors. the scientist has all slides and pictures of his experiments and holy shmidokes, across three strains the 10 hour photo period flower was way better and with quicker finishing time, and only traded for a marginally smaller yield. some other paradigm shifting info on here also

Another article that is going to radically alter cannabis cultivation.

I had read articles about an 11/13 light cycle a few years ago and, natch, flowered a couple of times at that 11/13 light cycle - start to finish - to see if the articles were correct. I saw no additional benefit compared to the more standard 12/12 so reducing lights on time doesn't change the game.

But please - try it and see for yourself.

And it works.. On my third grow of OG Kush the flower density nearly doubled under 10 hours of flower on time. The general way to go about it is listed here..

"When we begin flowering, move everything to 11 hours on, and 13 hours off. You will keep this for 2 weeks, then drop the lighting period by 30 minutes, I.E. after two weeks you will switch to 10.5 hours on, and 13.5 hours off. Continue this 30 minute drop every 2 weeks until you reach 9 hours on/ 15 hours off. Finish your flowering at this lighting".

I didn't have the balls to try 9 hours but kept it at 10 hours for the last 4 weeks of flowering.

I've done many custom timings such as 28 hour day (only once tho, master kush went bonkers, got photos. 89d on a 56d pheno clones and yet not fully ripe) and in the past I used a stepped 2-hour drop with indicas mostly. Equatorial sativas can easily react negatively in later bloom IMO. Usually those grows of mine go with 8 hours of rest at veg.

You need to seriously oversize your lights to get the same DLI. I'm not even sure if they appreciate higher intensities, albeit for shorter intervals.
Are you sure the flower needs that much (or the same) dli towards the end? Good question, one I had for a bit. The short answer is, according to a member here, who has monster buds by the way, they're fatter than a donkeys d&ck. says that it's the absence of light (during flower) that causes the buds to fatten up. Me personally, my DLI at 12 on is at 41. Kinda high for not using C02 imo. At 11 hours on it's at 37. By the time I get to 10 a month later it's at 34. And that's worked out. IF I went the 9 hours on, my DLI would've been at 30. Good question and it seems that it doesn't matter when in flower, the key might be to start off as high as you can go?

You have to remember that most of the weight comes on the last few weeks just before harvest. I watched the video and didn't see what your describing. I'll have to watch it again, at the 17 minute mark correct? I think he was referring to CBD levels? He mentioned that most (at home) grow for flower consumption, and you can see from the photos the 10-11 hour on time flowers were the most dense across the board between the three plants studied there.

Not sure what this comment is all about. It's just one study from one guy. For something to be "scientifically proven" has to involve more than just one study. I'm not saying he's wrong or that he's right here.

I watched it already, that's why Im commenting here, I'll have to watch it again because 10 week groups? It's not jiving with me.

  • On two separate occasions?
  • Running the exact same environment each time?

... or maybe you could 'see for yourself' ...

  • 11/13 won't grow you any higher quality bud than 12/12 will.

shucks, i thought you were going to say YOU ACTUALLY TRIED 10/14....

as in, "we can see an almost EXPONENTIAL decrease in bud quality from the 10 hour group as we move to the groups farther up in light duration"

The experiment only showed that 10 hours of light results in faster maturation; not unexpected and maybe useful in a commercial environment.

It would have been nice to see the results after 10 weeks to allow the 12 hour plant to fully mature.

To claim the 10 hour bud was "way better" is only true at 8 weeks; not a meaningful metric for most growers.

A more accurate thread title would have been: 10/14 for flowering produces higher quality bud at 56 days
