10x10 with 4xGavita 1k DE

I'm looking for peoples opinion on how to best orient the 4 Gavitas for maximum performance, room is a perfect 10x10 square

I was thinking that since they say these have a 5x5 footprint, simply split the differences and mount them approx 2.5ft in from the walls to make a 5x5 grid, or am I missing something?

You should email gavita and they'll send you a lighting plan/layout. It'll be based on your ceiling height as well.
For me my plan was based more on overlap then reflection off the walls.
Do you have the el2 controller? If not get one, its a must have with these lights.

You do realize these are high bay lights and you really need 10+ foot ceilings
Yes they will work but know they put off more heat than a 1000w

No they are not high bay lights or no they are not heaters. When I had them up in my old flower room they had to have 3' so they wouldn't burn the tops of the plants. I had 10 foot ceilings in there so i was ok but if you have 8' ceiling that's 4' plant 3' space not to burn. That leaves 1 foot for the light.
Moving to the heat they produce the 4 I had a 18k btu could barely keep up with them keeping the room at 78

Well, ok you're right with the height.

With 8 ft ceilings you should have around 4ft plant height. Which is no problem if doing sog, but can hamper other plans.

The heat, how could 1000 watt hps be significantly hotter than another brand 1000 watt hps? It would have to be significantly inefficient. I don't see how that would be the case.

The standard reflectors do not have that footprint. Or a square or rectangular footprint. They are designed to be overlapped.

I never really looked at the newer reflectors but you should contact gavita. It wouldn't be like you planned.

Here's what I did...

Since its a square room, and I'm using 4 lights, orientation of the reflector shouldn't matter right? I'm trying to illuminate the entire room as equally as possible

I have a total ceiling height of 12 feet (vaulted) I mounted them in a square grid pulling 2.5 feet from either side walls, creating a distance of 5ft between all 4 lamps, in other words, they are mounted closer to the edges than they are the center of the room

They are up and running, have been for about a week now, everything looks good, heat hasn't been an issue, I'm keeping cooler temps with 4k watts of double ended than I was with 2.4k watts of single ended 600's (there are other contributing factors, don't get me wrong, these burn hot)

I will try to take a picture, but it's like photographing the sun...

Did you contact gavita? You really should, they'll send you a layout that will be the most efficient way of running these lights in your room.

I'm impressed with the Gavita/DE setup, I was skeptical at first, but I haven't seen anything brighter than these -- it's unreal
