If my ballast are switchable from 110 volt to 220 do I get better results in the 220 mode or is it the same for 110?

Power consumption will be ever so slightly lower running the higher voltage and that is more than likely due to voltage drop in the smaller wires. Most people will try to cheap-out and run as small a wire as they can get by with to save $$$. Don't do it! It costs more in the long run and it can be a fire hazard!

I like the high voltage, but if you need to use your regular outlet... 110v should do just fine.

I think we have a few Electrical Experts on here. Search a little more... I bet you'll find a wealth of knowledge on RIU!

higher voltage x lower current = power used
lower voltage x higher current = power used

in the end the power used is almost identical but like you pointed out higher voltage lets you use smaller wires with less heat.
