18/6 vs. 24/7

yea ive done just about every combo and the difference in growth is mim compared to the cost of running it, but you have to give your plant some rest to store up to grow when that light comes back on

i guess i am the minority.

i find i get faster growth going 24/0 than i do going 18/6.

18/6 will save you some power but in my experience it cost me time.

both keep plants in veg so whatever floats your boat.

plants get all the sleep they need when they get 12 hours of darkness.

We did a lot of experiments with light times a few years back using known sat and sat dom clone lines.

With Vegging ie under hid lights.

20/4 produced the most sturdy growth and the most bulk. Best final yield, taken as 100%.
22/2 Less of both. yield 88%
18/6 Studier than 22/2 but slightly less bulk. yield 87%
24/0 Much lighter in all aspects than 18/6. Yield 79%
16/8 The weediest plants. yield 67%

Plants vegged to final pots under fluorescents at 20w per sq ft on 18/6 yield 49% - Oldtymer1 (moderator) Jun 04'
This is the study i was looking for.... 20/4 is the best possible lighting, and you still save a little money in electricity. Lamp

to greyskull .. you honestly like that sea of green .. ? there is soo much space between nodes ... you could cut your crop in half and yield the same amount .... you need to let the light hit the bottom of the plant, right now you got double the plant per yield .. if you get booked .. you got twice the sentence .. and half the yield ..? doesnt make sense ??

bubba kush doesn't yeild like big bud or ak47, or other commercial strains. shes a low yeilding plant. in order to run bubba in a production setting and get any kind of yeild off of it you need to grow them big, topping them at least once. I wait until they are 18-20 inchs to move them into the flower room.

in 8 weeks under my 1000 those 20 plants on a 4x4 are gonna bloom into 1.5lbs of bubba kush.... 34 grams per plant.

I've tried the bubba smaller... thought "more light to thesmaller plants will equal bigger buds" and it didn't work out that way.
and i am operating withing the law with my op.... not pushing anything that will give me a hard 5.

i hear what you're saying and all, but the strains i run don't yeild unless you grow them big first.

I disagree ... I mean 20 inches isnt even two feet, almost doubling in size in flower, less than four feet, your gonna get undeveloped skinny buds .. Bud to stem ratio is brutal .. an indica strain should have no less than 5 nodes and over 2.5 feet before flower .. If you finish an indica under 4 feet, your losing a lot of yield ...

20 plants at 1.5 lbs weighed wet is garbage ... dry is brutal ..6 kush plants yield a pound .. dry .. grown 6 feet ... norm 4 ..

I've been told to have the lights 24/7 in veg. but some say I should have them 18/6.

What's the difference? Isn't it good to just give them as much ligth as possible before I start flowering?

The dark cycle allows for root development. They still grow in the dark!

look at my time lapse video this is part 2
Its taken within a 24 hour period. Look at the dark cycle ou can see them still growing.

my plants finish at 36". Also, by the middle of the 2nd week of flower I have removed the bottom 1/3 of the junk down there to force the plant to develope its energy at the top 2/3. I was taught this technique by a good friend in Ukiah who I consider a master grower.

20 plants of Bubba Kush yeilding 1.5lbs of top shelf dry buds is pretty friggin good. And I don't know where you're getting the "wet" from... I don't even weigh my buds when they are wet.

*DUDE 1.5lbs PER LIGHT IS GOOD RESULTS FOR BIG BUD OR AK47 BUT THE FACT THAT I AM DOING IT WITH BUBBA KUSH W/O CO2 MEANS I AM DOING SOMETHING RIGHT*

I'd like to see what you do and what genetics you are doing it with... I didn't find a grow thread or picture album of any of your grows. You talk a big game I'd be stoked to see what you can do, and gleem some knowledge, if your kung fu is true.

here's a canopy shot of the last grow
1.5lbs dry

and here's some nice undeveloped skinny buds... not pre 98 bubba, but sourdieselxsourbubble...

And the recent crop chopped at 55 days. Weighing the harvest in the morning....

It's all about gleaning all the info you can and then performing experiments on your own to find what works for you. I just wasted over one month of 11,000 lumens of 6500k CFL lighting to get some indica dominant and some sativa dominant plants to grow 7in. tall and 14 inches wide and 9in. tall 12in. wide respectively in a 10x18 space. This was with the much touted 20/4 light regime. Yes they were bushy but disappointingly short. So 3 days ago I switched to 12/12 light regimine and from my 6500k to 2700k bulbs to induce blooming and much to my surprise now have ,at last measure 9in. tall indicas and 12in. tall sativa dominant plants. Now my guess would be that it was not the bulb change but the going from 20/4 to 12/12 that caused the sudden more rapid growth.
