The company that sold me the bulb decided it would be better to give me a refund to my paypal. what a waste of time dealing with these folks. either way i found a 400 watt hps and ballast i can use with the reflector i already have for only 100 dollars. cant wait to put in the upgrade, will have more pictures soon!

Anyone want to discuss yield on cfls vs. hps? i know on a well trained plant like mdog, about .4-.5 grams a watt is realistic with a cfl, but what about an hps? how much will that change my temperatures and yield, how far should i keep it away?

It really stinks that the one plant turned herm on you. Those are def balls on it, at least you caught it before they opened.

Mdawg seems to have exploded in size since the previous pics. That plant is looking great. My AK sprouted just hours before I made my first post in this thread. Today she is 22 days from sprout, and I don't see any preflowers yet. She has experienced a slight N toxicity and a Mag def just like yours did. I hope mine explodes like yours did. It hasn't happened yet, but there's still time.


cfls vs hps? I only use cfls, so I can crush a couple of the myths about them for ya. I have been a mj smoker for a little over 30 years, but only growing for about 5 years. In my experience, cfls will grow a plant that is just as potent and has equally tight buds, compared to a hps. The difference (and it's huge) is all about the final yield. Your going to have a possibility to pull about twice as much by using a 400w hps. I have been unemployed since I popped my first seed, otherwise I would have one as well. The largest area of difference should be just under the canopy, because of the better penetration that the hps will provide. One of my ex-roomates grows and uses a 400w hps to flower, and I admit that I am jealous of you both (in a good way).

I was looking back at some earlier posts in this thread and was wondering.....what ever happened to those other beans you were trying to pop? I wanted to say that I would not recommend keeping them under water for more than 12-24 hours. Some can stay under longer, but it seems to depend on the strain. It is quite possible that they were drowned. The taproot that emerges is the beginning of the root system, and roots need oxygen. I used to put mine in a glass for an hour or two, then move them to the paper towel routine. I have found the "put them in water" step to be unneccessary don't do it at all anymore.

Hey Toker, nice to hear from you

Those seeds were bad genetics and i think my germ temps were way to low, in the end i blame the loss on a poor handling of the situation; grower error. However i am currently germinating 2 northern lights seeds and 2 double gum seeds as well as i have 1 rooted clone of mdog and another rooted in another day or two. i hope i can get this refund and get the 400 watt system soon because i need the space. my new plan is to grow from seed, veg for a month, take clones at 3 weeks and put the big plants under the 400. from there i can grow the clones under the veg light until i need to start seeds again, ill just put the clones under the 125 watt and grow side projects. im really excited for all this development bur i have to say im really impressed with these cfls. mdogs undergrowth is absolutely remarkable, i will get pictures as soon as i can, possibly tonight.

to summarize:
1- 200 watt veg cfl under wich i have 2 afghan plants and will have 2 northern lights and 2 double gum soon
1- 125 veg cfl with mdog under, absolutely remarkable
and i am planning on getting a 400 wat hps soon wich will count for another 55000 lumens of flower power!

Got pics of the set up ready for a 400 watt dimable ballast and hps bulb, the veg room with new seeds and 2 clones, and mdog who is quite happy, i flushed her yesterday and shes on day 9 of flowering, shes looking happy, humidity is constantly between 40-60 percent and temperatures generally go from 70-75 during the day. i hope i can get the hps soon so i can get the clones out and mdog under a bigger light and hopefully boost my yield. anyways here they are

anyways, here are the double gum and northern lights seeds at day 3, slight n deficiency but the light nutes in the soil should handle that shortly, also have a clone of mdog on day 17 from the cut



and heres mdawg at day 17 in flower, shes got phosphorus deficiency symptoms so i made an eggshell light 202020 molasses epsom salt and bone meal tea that i used followed by a half gallon of water in the new pot, oh yea i transfered her too happy plant, starting to get nice whiffs of dank when i open the door, start using the carbon filter soon i am super excited for this girl

thanks for stopping by, i find 1 big cfl makes it hard to cover the plant when its bigger or in bigger pots but if your doing one plant they are wonderful. do you have any grows planned or any journals i could check out? i feel like cfls can make great bud, it really depends how the plant is trained, ie. how much it strectches/ shape of the canopy. im expecting somewhere between one to two ounces off my girl but well have to see. Ill check the grow in your sig Brah

That AK is lookin' great! Those buds are coming along very nicely for only having been in 12/12 for less than 3 complete weeks. I love the bud porn! My current AK grow is my first with that strain, but from what I see so far I would be surprised if you don't get over 2 oz from it easily.

I looked back at your first post in this thread and I didn't see what you are using for flowering ferts. Bone meal has high P, but it also has a lot of N and no K. Your probably going to want to get something that has a lot of P, and roughly the same amount of N and K. I'm not saying it can't be done, but I've never heard of anyone flowering by using just bone meal for P. As your girl gets further into flowering she will want more and more P. If you already have plans for this then just disregard my ramblings.

Don't worry about posting in my journal as I don't have one and haven't in over 2 years. Currently I have 5 plants going, one of each of the following strains: AK (of course), Northern Lights x Big Bud, Blue Lemon Thai, White Shark, and Toxic Blue. The WS and TB are at 10 days since the light flip and the rest are still in veg. My garden has room for 6 plants so the plan is to germinate another NLxBB (probably tonight) as I just lost a Critical Mass that I was trying to reveg again after getting my 6th harvest from her. I might throw up a few pics when they get close to harvest time.

Haha well i live in Vancouver, Canadas cannabis capital so the cops are better friends than enemies here. i would be pumped with over 2 ounces, i hope i can get the 400 soon to help bump her up a bit as i put her in a 3 gallon pot. as for nutes im using a bit of bone meal 6-9-0 and molasses and eggshell tea and epsom salts as my base, probably wont apply anymore bone meal tho. i add half strength all purpose nutes when i see n or k deficiency too, luckily the P deficiency kindof naturally lollipoped her which is great cause she was getting to be quite the bush. im excited to taste how earthy and clean this afghan will be, quite the nice christmas treat haha.

Well as soon as i hear about pics i want to check out your set up and girls, love to read everything haha. damn was that the 6th harvest and using cfls? hardcore ill keep posting pics at least weekly actually that reminds me i have some pictures of the babies on day 6 of veg, bit of a ph problem as seedlings but i anticipated that with the peat plugs although reliable, can be risky if not used properly. once the roots dig into the soil nice and deep they should turn more green. also the clone has roots starting to poke out of the bottom so ill be moving that soon.

plants are doing great, using natural deficiencys to defoliate mdog when shes too bushy and the babies are all thriving with 5 tight nodes at 2 weeks old, then im topping and focusing on the 4 branches that grow from that. good news too , finally got my refund and ordered my 400 watt hps, couldnt be more excited

Sounds like things are going good. Don't let those deficiencies get out of hand, the only natural def your plant should have at this stage would be nitrogen. Any other issues will affect your yield and potency. It can be a battle to stay on top of things, but hang in there.

Good job on getting your clones going. Cloning is the one part of growing that I completely suck at.

I grew pure northern lights one time in the past, about a year ago. My nl beans came from Homegrown Fantaseeds and man, that was some killer stuff. I know your going to love the final product you get from them.

Congrats on getting a hps ordered, that will help everything, especially yield. I hope it comes without any additional problems.

Harvest went down early due to a hermi caused by a power outage when i was unable to switch the timers to fix it, the result was the light cycle being off by 1.5 hours really fucking mdog with seeds

despite this development, i harvested a good 2oz of dried bud, probably 1.7 oz with seeds out. the weed has been curing the last few days but ive been smoking since i harvested just because i have no alternate source.

ill wait to do a proper smoke report and ill have pictures, also i will continue this thread with mdogs daughter clone so you can see what the buds were supposed to be like, pray for no hermi on the clone which was in the room with the power outage too.

all in all, with no specific feeding program and a 125 watt cfl im very happy with my harvest, the early indica gives me a good 50 50 head body high which is nice during the day, but hard to help with sleep problems. ill start a new thread with my northern lights babies as that will be a whole different grow with new lights and an hps
