1st Grow, Need a Critique!

So this is my first grow, and the last plant standing. My other one turned male and he's out back in my yard for now.

She's 6 weeks old from seed, and 7 days into 12/12 from 18/6. I've had a few problems with her from the beginning but she's turning into a very beautiful bushy plant. You might be able to see a lot of the bottom growth has necrotic spots on it and on the edges. I wasn't giving any nutes when it started and never figured out why it was dying. All of the new growth looks great, no spotting, burns, or discoloration.

I've browsed a lot through the forums and journals and this plant doesn't look like where it should be at 6 weeks old. To me, it's smaller than normal and really tight spacing, almost too much. There's only 4-5 scattered flowers around the plant, maybe 1 on each node towards the top. Is that normal? I can tell she's stretching a little bit, not as much as I hoped. I was forced to 12/12 her early because of my other plant being too big, and ended up being a male which sucked! :wall: I didn't wanna risk going back to veg so I'm just going to ride it out.

I've given her a good dose of flowering nutes, 1tsp Tiger Bloom / gallon the first day of 12/12 and then another 1tsp Tiger Bloom and 1tsp Grow Big about 1-2 days ago.

PLEASE critique my plant, I'm a newb and I'll gladly take any suggestions. I'll post more information if asked.

... on the height issue- you got an indica variety there for sure; some kind of kush most likely. the indicas do not stretch like sativas. dont be worried about the tight nodes- you'll be glad later, when your trimming up some nice fatty colas! if you want more impressive veg results maybe bump yer light up to a 400watt digi mh eventually. dont get me wrong, i love cfl's , i'm using t5's right now in a veg setup, but i have noticed increased growth rates in quicker time under metal halide light. just my opinion. but your first round looks like it's going great, and given conditions/plant variety- everything looks on time. peace, and happy gardening

Looks incredible for a first-time grow...If mine turns out as good I won't complain. Only piece of advice I can give you is get more lights. With CFL's there's no such thing as going overboard, and given your current success I would try and yield as much as possible :)

Woah, I was NOT expecting those comments. THANK YOU everyone! Ya she is beautiful I must say... When I look at her, I honestly don't think there's a more gorgeous looking plant (species wise), the leaves are so uniform and perfect and the way it grows, alternating fan leaves just looks amazing. I can't wait until I start seeing those delicious flowers. I'm surprised you don't see more MJ plants as decoration :weed:

I'll try and get a better pic off the top, because the newest growth of the leaf is a bright greenish tourquise color and the edges, tips, and around the veins are turning a darker green with a deep blue tone. Temps have been 75-82 during light hours and 65-74 during dark hours so it's not super cold, to turn it purple. It looks so cool, and this plant is bagseed so I thought it may be Blue Mystic, or some kind of colorful Kush. Hopefully someone will be able to tell the strain when she starts budding.

I posted some pics of the other plant I was growing that turned out to be male. It's also an amazing plant, the genetics are great, very hardy, grows quick, pre-flowers started at 4 weeks in 18/6 and the leaf spacing is perfect. I had to top it at 3 weeks because it was such a vigorous plant. I put it out back in my yard because I want the seeds from it. I'll just have to change my cloths when tending to it, so I don't transfer pollen to my female :leaf:

You can see the before and after pics from when it was indoor to outdoor. I swear, if this plant isn't really an outdoor bred plant, I would say the natural sun works WONDERS. :clap:Kona 9-28-2010.jpgKona 10-2-2010 - Before Outdoor # 1.jpgKona 10-2-2010 Before Outside #3.jpgKona 10-5-2010 Outdoors #1.jpgKona 10-5-2010 Outdoors #4.jpgKona 10-5-2010 Outdoors #2.jpgKona 10-5-2010 Outdoors #5.jpgKona 10-5-2010 Outdoors #6.jpg

I got these at a local hardware store. I think they're used for pet cages like reptiles, and you put the heat bulb in it. They were super cheap, $6 for the ones I got and there's another 2 size's up for $7 and $8, they go up by about 3-4" wider/more wattage. The bigger ones support up to 100w or something so you would really only put CFL's in it most likely.

They are called "Clamp Light" made by 'Pro-Lite', 60watt - 5-1/2" Aluminum Reflector. I'm sure you could find these at Home Depot, Lowe's, or even a pet store like Petco or something.

I just made a stand for them, you could use anything square or rectangular to balance it, then I nailed a small piece of wood upright on the mount and just clipped it to that. And it can swivel up and down and side to side, so you can really aim it anywhere at the plant. Great for side lighting, and super easy to make. I'll probably get 2 more for the other 23w lights that are hanging from my T5, and probably replace with more 40w's

Those are preflowers you see. Looking good. First grow? I wouldn't give it any more grow big, which is rich in N until the 3rd or 4th week of flower.

Ya they are pre-flowers... Pre-flowers usually don't show up 1-2 weeks after 12/12 right? Then after that you start seeing the bug growth with all the white hairs everywhere at the tops and node sites??

It just seemed like it was going slow, but I'm sure that's how it always is when you first switch the light, and the plant is getting ready to produce flowers in the coming weeks. I'm guessing after the 2 weeks are up and she starts slowing her stretch I'll start seeing more mature flowers.

I'm SO IMPATIENT haha.

And yes, this is my first grow.

Preflowers can show up on some strains in as little as 3 weeks to a month in excellent growing conditions during veg. I usually wait until I see preflowers before I flip to 12/12 because thats the first sign that the plant is reaching maturity. It also shortens the time it takes for flowering to start. I think you just flipped a little early. Is the plant drinking up the water. If i remember you said it hadnt stretched any right? Be patient it will start to show flowers and when it does it will take off. One love and good luck.

Ya I know that has something to do with it. I had 2 plants and had to start 12/12 because one was getting WAY too big then ended up being a male LOL, such bad luck. So the female was turned a little too soon, but she DID have a little bit of alternating nodes, not really enough to say "mature" and like 1 pre flower so I knew for sure she was female before I switched. Ya I'm hoping that when she gets settled into full flower mode she'll take off.

I also used some string to tie the bottom fan leaves up with the next node fan leaf above them, which opened up the entire secondary growth to the light. The lower fan leaves were starting to droop from loss of light so I have a feeling I'm going to see some explosive growth here in a few days. I have basically lit up the entire plant, undergrowth and all...
