1st indoor has commenced

Hey guys, a while back I joined the forum and after a lot of preparation I'm finally starting my first indoor grow. My only other grow to date was last year and was two babies potted up outdoors on my terrace.

So what's the setup?
superbox Mylar 150 that measures 80x150cm
1- 6 pot hydroponic system with rock wool and clay pebbles
Home and garden nutrients
Water pump for the hydro trey- haven't purchased yet
1 clip on fan
1- 6 inch extractor fan with ducting and carbon filter (will mount filter in flowering stage)
5 Blue Mystic seeds from nirvana
Mau5-V COB LED kit- haven't purchased it yet but will soon hopefully.
*optional- scrog net

the hydroponic tray only takes up half the tent but I think I'll only use half of it for now and set up my light as an X over this half. This will give me some room to work around- my tent is in the laundry room and it's a really tight squeeze. If everything goes good this first run I'll add a second light and hydro system.

ok day 1!
June 20, 2016

Started germination of 5 blue mystic seeds with the paper towel/ double plate (clam style) method
I soaked my rock wool cubes in 6.0 ph water and will keep the cubes in the water until seeds are ready

Day 2
Tap roots started to crack

Day 3
June 22

All 5 seeds have cracked and showing taproots. So I took the rock wool cubes and wicked them off until they were just moist- much in the same way you flick water off of a paint brush. I placed the cubes in a plastic tray next to my window- I have the tray closed to keep moisture in but will monitor whether the cubes dry out and need spraying.

Another update! Mmmmm I got a scrog net that was a different size than what is supposed to be used for the tent I got. If I used the middle poles the net would be too loose and if I used the outer poles the net would be too stretched out.

but I had a used clothes drying rack hanging around so I took the racks off and put them on top of the net.

A little off the top thinking and not exactly "pretty looking" but tell me whatcha think? Or if I should go get a new net lol

Also let me know what you think I should do as far as plant training goes. Thanks!

My experience with scrogging is very limited but imo if the screen is stable enough and doesn't damage your plant then it should serve its purpose.
And with the limited height you have I would definitely suggest scrogging. Good Luck bro :peace:

Thanks for the good wishes man! I'm actually relatively not limited by height, my tent measures 200cm for height, but it's narrow and so is my laundry room.
80 centimeters for the tent and maybe 100 centimeters for my actual room itself. So I got a mere 20cm of space between the tent and the wall for moving around.

The net actually is perfect for putting those metal racks on relatively firmly, maybe will anchor the racks down more to the net with zip ties

One major issue im going to be running into in this specific run will be heat. July August and maybe even September is going to be hot as fuck. Did a small little test run today with the temp monitor and it read 86F (30C) in the tent not including plants, running hydro system, or the cob lights

Hey guys another update today, the sun went down and I got back home and turned on my light above my kitchen sink when suddenly it hit me that I believe I can use it to further along the seedling stage- let me know whatcha think ". I believe it's a single t5 fluorescent tube but I could be mistaken- lemme know?

I put my tray on top of my pasta strainer to get them about 20cm from the light  just giving it a little supplemental lighting before bed and the next sunrise! Or would they stretch ?

Thanks bro, you got a grow goin at the moment?
yup. about 50 days in. Vegging for moms. just took clones to sex the moms. trying to do an sog style drip/dwc setup. Running Space Monkey ( GG#4 x Wookie#15) and Buddhas Hand (Lemon Thai x Snow Lotus) both by Bodhi

Also just Fyi, I don't think that's a t5 as t5's have a much bluer light. It will work nonetheless. I used plain old cfls for vegging with lots of success.

:grin:Thanks man! Yea it's just a little extra lighting at night when the sun goes down, started putting my seedlings in direct sunlight yesterday for an hour or so and they didn't fry, so gonna get expose them to more sunlight during the day and get that kitchen light a few hours at night

Day 5
June 25
So getting things dialed in
I purchased my light today! Mau5-V kit, I'm really excited for it to come in so I can put it together next week, will be my first DIY light project.

Today I put my plants on my first balcony, northern facing for 1 or two hours this morning before the sun went over the apartment roof. Then I brought them back in under the kitchen sink light for the last 5 hours. Now I came up with another idea- I have a western facing balcony as well and the sun is hitting nicely and will remain that way for nearly the remainder of the day. So I took my plants out and put them under the shade of one of my other house plants (mini palm tree type thing) I read it on one of the forums that's what a person does.

Also today I watered with 5.5 ph water, the 1st day was with 6.0 but I read that the rock wool actually raises up the ph.

When I watered I noticed the taproot is poking out of all the cubes so another good sign!
To avoid the taproot from growing along the bottom of the cube (I'm sure it doesn't really matter) I cut toilet paper rolls and put the cubes in so they aren't touching the trey and the developing roots can just "hang"

Day 7
June 27

Yesterday I went to the beach and had all my plants under my kitchen light the whole day, all were good except one which was flopped over. I took it out the light and within an hour or so it was fine. Also watered yesterday.

Today all the plants appear to be healthy although all of their stems are looking to be a bit reddish, except for one which is green. Is this normal? Was thinking of when I should start dipping the cubes in nutrient water as well, quarter strength?

Just from experience , I would hold off on any kind of nutrients for at least another week if not more. I've always used rockwool for seedlings, all they need is to remain moist while those roots are establishing themselves. I fed quarter strength when my seedlings had their first set of true leaves and still burnt em. patience and diligence is the key.

Yea it's hard not to love them to death lol, I'll just keep them like this for now and dip once in water every day or two for the next week.

I got bad internet at the moment but I was trying to reply to your comment on your grow journal-

Yes! American made but I moved onto the Mediterranean last year. Come next spring in gonna try to scope out some guerrilla spots and try to take on some monster sativas outdoors! I might go buy some autos too and run them outdoors this summer too, just gotta find some spots.

I wish I could smell those space monkeys! Very well explained lol, you doin anything else besides super cropping?

Good Luck with the guerilla grow, I might end up throwing some out this year if I can find a good spot.but definitely next year. As far as training, I topped them at the 4th node. that was to encourage bushing for clones. I'm doing the super cropping now to even out the canopy. yeah a lot of time us a new growers tend to do too much. I can almost guarantee they will be fine for another 2 weeks as long as you don't over water or let them get dry. I had 2 die from thirst this run. and I dealt with overwatering and feeding too soon lol its all about learning from your mistakes. what kind of nutrients you gonna use?
