First time growing soilless. I've grown my last 4 grows in Hydroponic systems. Ok. I need some help understanding the feeding/watering process of soil/soilless media. Do I feed 1 day, then water the to next 2 days, then wait for the soil to dry and repeat those steps? OR...... Do I feed 1 day, wait for the soil to fry, water with fresh water, wait for it to dry, then water again, wait for it to dry again, and then repeat again? I'm having a little trouble understanding the feed 1 day water 2. I am listing below what I use in my recipes for both grow and flower. I would also like to know if when give my girls JUST fresh water, is there anything in my recipe I can use with the fresh water along with the HygroZyme. Some say the Sweet and the Bud Candy. Anything else, Should I even bother? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Peace -Dr

So ur saying ALWAYS use nutes? Even though the nute company say feed, water, water? I can't water everyday. My soil would never dry out. I water till water comes out the hole and it takes about a week for the top inch to dry out. I am a little confused about ur answer. If u could explain a little more I'd be very grateful.

I water(with nutes never without unless i have a calcium build up problem ) as ofter as possible w/out overwatering because no oxygen gets to the roots then death does. get a measuring device that cost 15$ at the hydro store, it will tell you when they need a watering (scale from 1-4, i usually wait till 1 to water), im no pro but the more roots the more watering you'll need to do, hope that helps good luck

I am growing in soilless, and I really like this medium. I think it's the best "soil" medium out there.
You have to add all nutrients and ferts yourself, so you can manage things much better than any soil that has "time release" nutrients. Burns those plants everytime. :fire:

So watering...every 3-7 days in Veg, every 2-3 days in flowering. More often as the plant gets bigger, which is why 2-3 in flowering. More roots, more plant=more water obviously.
My method for figuring out when a plant needs water is the good ole ...pick it up and you can tell method. I know when it's wet, and I know when it's dry or almost based on the weight of the plant+pot.
I don't use nutrients every time. You say you saw something that said water+nutes, then water, water, then start over again. That sounds about right to me, but I do every other time. Water+nutes, then water.

I added some of my nutrients to my original soilless mix. Worm castings+Bat guano high in Nitrogen. I also added some 8-5-5 fert which is made for tomatoes, but it works great for MJ. Tomatoes and MJ being in the same genus, they can use mostly the same nutrients. I did do some foliar feeding with nutes as well.

After the initial soil mix, I then added nothing but water for the first 3-4 weeks. At this stage I began feeding Humboldt Nutrients grow-5ml per gallon, and Humboldt Honey 1ml per gallon, and superthrive 1ml per gallon. Veg for a few more weeks, then it's on over to flower where I switch to Humboldt bloom and continue feeding superthrive and humboldt honey as well. Oh and big up powder for late in flowering.

My plants are very happy, I haven't had any problems with nutrient issues yet, no lockouts, no unhealthy leaves on the plants. Hell even some of my plants right now are most of the way through flowering and the large fan leaves are still completely healthy, lush, and green.

Sorry it took so long for me 2 respond. Thanks for the response brother. So if it take 1 week or so for the soil to dry out that's fine? See for the first few weeks I was feeding, then watering the next day. So it made my soil VERY damp. Now I've got some mold/white fuzz growing on top of the soil. I'm using Hygrozyme and I hope it works. It' only starts to show when the soil starts to get a little dry. As far as the roots, I checked them about 1 week ago and they were white, as they're suppose to be. I'm assuming the fact that it's NOT that warm in the room (70/lights on 65/lights off) is not helping that white fuzz die down. Now can I use any of my flower supplements I listed above, when watering w/o nutes?

Oh by the way I am making the swith to Humboldt Nutrients also as soon as my Dutch master stuff runs out. I was actually going to go with it last shopping spree I had, but went with DM again but NO MORE! Humboldt Nutrients is my next Nute company. I will still use Floralicious Plus and Bud Candy, besides the Humboldt Honey. But wil either use their Master A&B or Organic recipe.

:peace:

I'd say add nutrients with water feedings only.(or in your premix of your soil mix)
And yes, watering once a week, sounds about right for a plant depending on it's size.
A thirsty plant is better than a drowning one. :leaf:
Regarding your fungi/mold problem, I think what your using might get that under control. I am not 100%, but I know there are products out there to battle this kind of problem. Getting a fan blowing directly on the soil tops can help too, but if your temps are already kinda low, that's not really bueno. You'd need to get your temps up some, nearer to 75-78 if your gonna blow air straight on them.

As far as those low temps in my grow room..... Scratch that. I went from a Hortilux Eye 400 watt MH for vegging(which is a really cool bulb), to a Hortilux Eye Super HPS 600 watt(which is brand new) I just bought a new NextGen 400/600 watt. I've only got 1-400 watt and 1-1000 watt ballasts. I Know I can't dare put a 1000 watt in my tent with a 6"(435cfm) fan being reduced to a 4" duct. And my 400 watt runs excellent in there. But I've never used a 600 watt. And it sets off as much heat as a 1000 watt does. So I'm a little scared of heat issues now. 32" away from the light is at 74 f, where as to before it was 70 f. Which means some canopies(my Strawberry Haze is a tall bitch) is pretty hot. And when I get those canopies in 24"-18" of that light, how hot will that be? Well I'm gonna add some pics just for the heck. I don't want to really start a journal.............. :peace:♥

I actually, accidentally snapped my Strawberry Haze. I was tryin to bend it a lil so it wouldn't be bothered by the closeness of the light. And I snapped it. I bandaged her up, and reinforced it with aluminum tape. Hopefully she'll be alright. On my first grow this happened and I actually used electrical tape then,LOL, and it reconstructed it's stem. It actually made the stem stonger. It actually had a knot in the stem. Kinda looked like the calcium build up in my ankle when I broke it, LOL , so I'm pretty sure she will be fine. But u might see the bandaging on her in 1 of the pics.

The first 4 pics are of the girls with the lights off, and my exhaust method.

DSC03231.jpg<--This is my own strain, which I call "Fuzzy Mango" It was a K.C. Brains "Brasil" Hermie/Father and a Greenhouse Seeds "Super Silver Haze" female.
DSC03232.jpg<--Ok...... So here's the deal. When I got the beans, I was SOOOOOOOOOOO freakin excited AND STONED, that I plopped the beans in 2 different cups with water and then said...... "Shit.... Which one was which again?" Sooooooooo I'm not sure if this is G13 Labs "Pineapple Express", or Big Buddha "Chiesel". I will know in the end. But if u're curious to what I think it is????? I really am stuck on the fact that it's the "Chiesel"
DSC03230.jpg<--This is the other one of the "I DON'T KNOW WHICH 1 IT IS" This is the one I think is the "Pineapple Express" We'll See in 8 weeks(which is when she is supposed to be ready). The Chiesel is a 8-10 weeks strain. So I'm guessing at least 9-11 weeks
DSC03233.jpg<--And this tall bitch is the sweet Greenhouse Seeds Strawberry Haze. I hope she doesn't get like the Power Skunk I had my first 2 grows. The first 1 get about 75 some odd inches, as for my second 1 I topped early, not once but twice. So I had 4-50 inch long stems, all stemming from a 12 inch main stem. I got 4 tops alright. LMAO! I turned 1 plant into 4 plants. Seriously! Well, I hope u enjoy the pics, everyone/anyone, LMAO! :peace:♥
P.S. Also there's a couple of "Fuzzy Mango" in Bubblers back there as u saw. I had a couple of babies in hydro but do to the fact that I can't keep my room at 66 f so I keep my nute res nice and cool, messed my roots up. So I moved 3 of the babies to soil and kept 2 in the hydro. those roots are doing much better and the ones in the soil have gotten a heck of a lot better, thought they're at about 10" now. So I think they'll be fine. And those that I moved from the hydro to the soil that I speak of are 1 Greenhouse "Arjan's Haze", Which has recovered wonderfully. Another "Fuzzy Mango" Which has also recovered very well. And a Greenhouse "Hawaiian Snow" Which I think isn't gonna be worth a damn but I have the space for it, so until I have a reason to get rid of it, it will stay. I've been quick to want to throw a plant away because of it's size. The last grow the plant that I thought was looking like shit was the one that turned out with the beautiful nugs. The "Lemon Skunk".

I forgot the most important question. How much do I water? I watered 2day until just a little drained. Like a little puddle. But in the Jorge Cervantes video he says to allow a 10% run off. So am I watering correct or should I water till a nice amount of water drains out? Also I water twice. For example, I started out watering about 2 liters then waited for 10-15 minutes. Nothing came out of the bottom. So I added another 1 liter and that's when a small puddle drained so didn't water anymore. Thanks for any help. Peace-♥

Im using a soiless 50/50 perlite vermiculite. The weigh it and water method works for me. Once my 3 gallon pots are full of water (about 1gal), it takes about a week for me to rewater with 1/2 gallon. I stop when the tiniest bit runs out. They get drier with my 1000w over my 400w, faster of course. I'm no pro, but sounds to me like every other time for nutes if you aren't watering until it runs all the nutes out the pots. Of course perhaps nutes, water, water, nutes; depending on the ferts you use. Im going organic earth juice (doesnt burn) so I'll go every other time. When they go to flowering, or growing like mad, perhaps nutes each time. Then 2 wks before harvest....none! Always monitor your ph of water going in on soiless.

Anyhow, ur babies look really good, don't over-mother them!

Ok if it takes a week to dry out always water with nutes because your going to give your plant enough food for the week and enough water. If your worried about build up flush the soilless once a month. I Water twice a week so i mix a half strenght 3 part nute mix by GH.

Dude thanks for adding to this thread. it's been over a month since anyone has posted anything. I DO appreciate u taking ur time to help! My hydro store guy had said the same thing, as far as wat u said about feeding them. He claims he waters them everyday! But he does 1/2 feed, 1/2 feed, water. The only reason I know ur not him is because he's always trying to convince me to go with Technaflora products, instead of my Dutch Master Gold(LMAO). The grow is coming to an end, though. I added 2 quarts of Clearex solution, then finished the watering off with Final Phase solution. I only have 1 plant to start flushing on next watering. Also, I doubt I'll ever do a Soilless Soil grow again. I just went out yesterday, and bought me a Botanicare 4x4 tray, and Botanicare 40 gallon res w/ lid(along with some other cheap stuff, dude was sellin). For my mothers..... YES! But not for flowering. I had NO problems during Veg, They looked BEAUTIFUL, then a week is when the symptoms started, and ALL the plants, started gettin effected. I tried everything, and never REALLY figured it out. But it's almost time for the chop. Today I chop the Chiesel down. I kinda chopped 1/2 of her down within the last 2 weeks, cause there is no bud around my way. And I needed something to blaze! And it tastes GREAT! Smooth, but very pungent taste. It's actually a kind of disgusting taste, though it tastes soooo freakin good. Let's put it this way, if it steak tasted that way, I would be a vegetarian. But it's ok if I'm smoking the same nasty taste:bigjoint:. Go Figure!
I'm also thinking about getting the GH 3 part, and do a bubbler grow, with it. I already use Liquid KoolBloom, Floralicious Plus, and Diamond Nectar, So I wanna get GH and Humboldt Nutrient, and see which nute is less hassle. Well bro, thanks again. Peace!

You do just do it in promix. The peat holds water alot better. I use diamond nectar, karboboost, kushie kush, rhinoskin, dry koolbloom and GH 3part flora. hyrdoboost and 10-30-20. Soilless is foolproof
