2.5' x 2.5' x 5' (H) Tent / 600W HPS - Worried about temp issues

Hello all,
Thanks for reading! I am working on getting my grow back on. The space I have to work with is only 3' x 3' x 5' 3" in a basement tat is currently 57 deg F with outside temps currently 39 deg F. It will be summer soon and not sure how hot it will get down there. The tent will be 2.5' x 2.5' x 5' (H). I have a 600W cool tube from my old grow space. I have saved up a budget of $550 dollars. The tent is $130, Fan - $190, Filter - $47, Regular fans- $40, Soil - $19, Nutes - $26, Replacement Hanna PH probe - $58, PH up and down - $22. That's $532 so far. Getting a portable AC is not in the budget and if it was running exhaust to the nearest window would not be easy, but possible. Also trying to keep this a stealth as possible even though I own (nosey in laws live right next door). The fan I want to purchase and connect to my cool tube/filter puts out 728 CFM. Any thoughts, ideas on reconfigurations, and opinions are welcomed! Thanks again!

I was using a 600 watt HPS in a 3 foot by 2 foot by 5 foot tent and have no temperature problems it's just an extremely inefficient use of the light kind of an overkillI was getting three quarters of town so just under a pound every harvest but could never pull more and a 600 should be able to pull more than that

In my opinion witch I'm sure some one will not agree with lol 728 CFM is a little over kill considering your tent is approximately 32 cubic feet .. If its a tent you are going to use you risk the walls caving in and in turn you will be greatly reducing valuable grow space .. Some one correct me if I'm wrong but a 100 CFM fan would replace the air in your space around three times a min ! A great option if available would be a fan you can control with a dimmer switch allowing you to speed the fan up or slow it down if need be due to temps. Hope I shed some light on your situation .. Also you may want to look into a mountain activated carbon filter, it will virtually eliminate all Oder. Good luck:blsmoke:

Thanks kmo33! The 600 is what I have and don't want to spend money on a new light set up. Really appreciate the input!

Thanks Chris323! I hear what your saying on the CFM thing but I am planning on the worst for the summer. But it is something to think about since I am using a tent. My last space was a great closet set up so I didn't have to worry about that; I had a 500 CFM back then. Thanks again!

I was running a 600 cfm fan in that size tent. The higher cfm was kind of necessary for the heat in the small amount of space with a 600

The thing is with a 600 in my 3x5 I'm pulling 2lbs per harvest with the same veg time as the 2x4 you literally hit a point where you'll hit a plateau weight wise because the space will only permit a certain amount of foliage.

Sounds good! Think I will move forward with my plans. Also thinking of adding some thick wire from the perimeter of the top of the tent frame running down to the bottom of the frame; kinda like a cage. Should give It more support and not suck in on its self. Thanks again grow bro! I will add some pics when I get things going.

1) a 600w light is too big for that space without causing undo heat unless the ambient temp is low enough, but then the lights out temp will be too cold.

2) To all the morons saying a 100cfm fan would suffice.THAT'S ONLY FOR VENTILATION!

When using one fan to both cool a light and ventilate the space you need a more powerful fan than if you were to just use it for ventilation.

Thanks Ou8aCracker2! Exactly my thoughts on #1. Its the outside ambient temp of the basement that worries me. Its looking like I may need to save up for a portable AC, which is going to be a mega pain in the ass. But I can't really run exhaust without the native's raising an eyebrow and also raising electricity cost. Tnanks again!

What to do rollitup growfam??
I don't even smoke that much anymore. Really just doing this because I love to and when I do smoke I am not paying for it! 1 grow (~1/4 -1/2 lbs more or less), if I germ by April 4th, will last me until late fall maybe even early winter by the time it's veg'd flowered and cured, with a smoke date of mid to late July . And that's with giving some to my best friends and fam. Hmmm maybe I should go 12/12 from seed...naaa keep it ol' school. Thanks rollitup fam!

Grab a 250 or 400 watt ballast and bulb. It makes way more sense in the space you have for efficiency of your light.

Ya I have contemplated that but don't want to spend money on a light system... Guess its that or invest in portable AC. Think I will set it all up do a dry run for a couple days, take some readings then make the call. Lower watts or portable AC. Thanks again.

i think the burn for me running a 600 in a 3x2 tent was that it is impossible for you to do the 600 watts of light justice, you will never be able to pull what you could pull off a 600 in that space, so its kind of a waste of money for electricity.

Thanks again and again kmog33!

Does anyone else have any opinions on the matter. Help a brother out. I will be making my supply purchases on the April 1st and would love to hear more input and opinions.

Also, since I already have a 6" cool tube for my current 600W HPS, am I correct in thinking I just need a 400W HPS bulb and 400W ballast? Thanks everyone!

I've done it. I have purchased a 400 Watt ballast and 400 watt bulb with a 6" Vortex S-line fan for $141 at greenerhydoponics.com and found Lumatek 400/250 Watt Dual Voltage and Eye Hortilux Super HPS Enhanced Spectrum Bulb 400W hydrogalaxy.com for $180 Total free shipping!! Cheapest I have ever seen IMO! Think I might make this a journal when I get tings up and running! Thanks all who have helped so far!
