2013 Outdoor Bagseed Grow

I wanted to keep a journal of this years garden. I started late this year because I have been extremely busy with work and it was really a last minute deAll were started from seed (various bag seed) and germ'd in soil on June 10. All had popped by the 15th so they have been out of the ground for about 16 days. I started with 17 sprouts but lost 2 to critters and had 1 just die on me so now I am left with 14. I am hoping for 50% fem rate and wouldn't be surprised if I lost 2 more before I get them vegging strong so, if I am left with 5 or 6 healthy females I will be more than happy. FFOF is my choice of soil this year and am using the FF trio of nutes and other left overs from last year. The babies are a little stretchy, I know, because of where I have to keep them they don't get full sun all day long. I will post updates as the season goes on, topping next with LST to follow. Comments and suggestions are always welcome. Wish me luck! Thanks.View attachment 2721495View attachment 2721497View attachment 2721500View attachment 2721498View attachment 2721545

Well, this past week has been a little frustrating. I got 7 plants in the ground and had 7 in 3 gallon pots temporarily. On Tuesday I found 2 had been chomped on by probably a rabbit or a deer so I transplanted two from the pots in their place. Wednesday afternoon, those two were gone. Motherfucker!!! :cuss: I left those spaces empty for now until I get to Lowes tomorrow to buy some type of deterrent. So that will leave me with 7 in ground and 3 in pots. Once they show sex I will chop any males and have all females in the ground. I also topped most of them this week, only a few of the smaller ones have not been topped yet. Pics to follow. Question: What do you use to keep animals away from my tender young plants? Whatever it is it must not be easily detected by humans. Thanks in advance!:leaf:

Piss all around them not to get it on the plants the ammonia will kill them but animals will stay away from anything smelling like human.

Another trick that I started using this year to keep pests away is dog hair. I brush the ol' mutt and put his hair around the plants. Works well..if you have a dog. I let him piss on the outside of the pots too. So far so good, and I ALWAYS lose some to rabbit/deer etc.

I second what UrHighness said, Just take a wiz around your plant area. If you REALLY want to get into it, you can get some predator urine from the outdoor sporting goods store.

Another thing that is said to work well (people I know that have done it said it works, it's not just some internet gossip) is fabric softener sheets hung around the area; for the smell. And one more thing that people swear by is stringing a fence of fishing line (single strand) about 3 feet tall around the area, this is more for deer and I don't understand how it would keep them out, but again... people swear that it does.

I've used pie pans on strings in the past and that didn't do anything, if it did it was only very temporary.
I've also heard of using hair in a stocking with some perfume on it, but like you said... I wouldn't want to put my dna nor my dog's dna at the grow site.

Thanks bro, lots of good ideas!

I dug 2 more holes today and filled them with the last of my FFOF. So now I have 9 in ground and 1 in a 3 gal pot. I hope to get at least 4 females out of the 10 I have left.

OK, FUCK, human urine and dog hair do not deter whatever is chomping on my plants. I lost 3 more sometime today. For now I have rat traps w/ peanut butter and a live trap set with a bb gun waiting in the wings. Also sprinkled cayenne pepper around my remaining plants. Whatever is doing this just seems to be happy with just cutting the plant down 'cause the whole tops are laying there, the stem is mangled though. I see chipmunks rabbits and deer in my yard daily and birds too, I am leaning toward chipmunks though. Any thoughts, advice please. Im down to 7 plants now. WTF!
