24/0 versus 18/6

I have always done 18/6 with good results but a seed shop in Holland tells my brother higher thc- higher yield and faster grow if done 24/0. anyone here ever done a comparison. I may try on next run, but from what I have read gives zero time to recover if have any problems.

Sounds suspect to me.

Ive done both and my friends and I honestly couldn’t tell a definitive difference in the quality of the final product nor was the variance in yield consistent, or substantial enough to make any conclusions. I will say however that the plants that received dark periods appeared to look better, healthier and happier!

The only quality difference is gonna be due to controlling overall environment and feeding to maintain plant health ....with lighting being important but not so much the duration.
Over the years, I've run all the schedules....now run 12/12 on everything....does fine and I have plenty of potent flower.

Best pic of an auto I ever saw was 24/0.

Plants do "need" a little dark period to expel toxins and complete their daily cycle. Just like people need sleep to clear toxins from their brain.

I run 20/4. I also foliar feed before the dark period when needed.

In theory more light should = bigger plants in the same time frame. But there are limits to how much more it helps.

This is false. Plants do not need a dark period for photos in veg or autos.

bro science. C3 plants don't need a dark cycle in veg.

20/4 is the way to go with Autos. Its what breeders like Mephisto, NightOwl, RocBud etc. run.

I NOW run 20/4 …. Better rooting , longer day for veg , down time for gear.

What’s not to like ?

True. Although us humans don’t need x amount of vitamins and minerals to survive but we do better when all the amounts of met.

I personally run 20-4 otherwise I get very tired looking plants. Still grow just fine but when there is no photosynthesis the plant can focus on rooting.

It’s more the principle. Fun fact. When they droop during lights they are focusing on there roots.

If you’ve ever seen a sped up time lapse you can see them dance.

It would be interesting to do a side by side of 24 vs 20/4.

Although for the sake of money/equipment cost it’s best to cut those 4hrs out.

A lot of breeders recommend 20/4 too so must be something to it. Perhaps DLI is it?

DLI and the point of diminishing returns

16/8 and mine are fine. They actually get 12 hours under full light and 2 hours before and 2 hours after main light goes on/off I use 50 watts of led to keep them in veg.

I do this because the load is shared on another tent in the same room and I can't have both main lights on at the same time. Works out great and the room never gets too hot and I also don't overload the circuit.

I saw some video on yt, with some lady that has mayor degree in plant science . She said 18/6 coz they need dark period
