I have experience with this...My mothers r on 18/6. Then I Clone with cloning machine, after they r rooted I transplant and then I veg. them 24 hrs. under T-5 lights
for approx 4weeks. Then put them under 1000 watts 12/12. I have excellent smoke & high yeilds. Hope i was helpful. Peace & Happy Growing!

I have always vegged with 24/7 MH lighting and swear by it! If you want to grow trees, perhaps thats not a good lighting regimine, but if you like to keep them around 4 to 5 feet tall at maturity, then there is nothing wrong with it. Marijuana does not require darkness AT ALL during it's vegetative phase. Most plants do, so people assume MJ does to, but that is a false conclussion. My girls grow nice and bushy with tight internodes. I experimented with 2 grows doing 1/2 of the plants at 24/0 and half at 18/6 (using clones of my favorite Power Kush pheno) and the group at 18/6 yielded less every time. That's enough to let me know that, at least with my particular set-up and phenotype, 24/0 is the best option during vegging.YMMV.

They don't need it, but its more natural for them that way. They work more efficiently with some dark time. Yeah they don't need dark and can certainly grow with 24/7 light, and that even has its own advantages. But the plants grow more efficiently at 18/6 than 24/7

*they may not grow more but they will grow more for the # of hours of light
