240w Nirvana Blue Mystic

Hi everyone

I grew years ago, using a 400w HPS and soil set up. After the whole Overgrow thing I went into a panic and decided to pull what grows I had and leave behind websites like this. Years of having to pay through the nose for substandard product helped me to decide that I really miss having my own growing away so back I have come. When I last grew it seemed that LEDs were astronomically expensive and not terribly good, but for my new kit I decided to give them a whirl. So I purchased a 240w LED off ebay, along with a cheap tent and extraction system (it defo all looks nicer than the white washed closet that I used before) and away I go. Dropped my 5 Auto Blue Mystic seeds from Nirvana in a glass of water and left for 24 hours, after which they had all germinated (happy days) so into their pots they went.

I am using 10 litre plant pots for 3 of them, the other 2 are growing in cut up ginger beer bottles - the idea being the 3 in the larger pots for myself and the other two will hopefully give me a couple of much smaller plants that will make nice surprise xmas gifts for a couple of close friends. As far as I understand autos (something I've never grown before) the smaller pots mean the plants will be smaller and finish earlier, is this correct?

As for LEDs, I am using one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/161089283496 for my lighting, does anyone have any experience at all with them? I tried a search but either they've not been mentioned or my search-fu sucks. Probably the second.

Pics to follow as soon as I get my camera back

Peace

8 days since they sprouted now, 10 since I germed them. Had some problems with heat as lights were close to the plants and I didn't have a fan to help circulate the air in the tent. That's now fixed - although I did manage to drop the fan on one of my girls and she got a little bent. Oops. These are the bigger three.

I like how they say 6 bands at the top and 9bands further in the text. Also i like
They produce so little heat; you can actually let the plant touch the light

And I like how they mention directly Marijuana in the text, so customs Office doesnt have to ask you what that thingy is for ;-) Grobble can you Switch different Clusters of light? maybe thats for flowering what u r currently using, but maybe im wrong, seem a bit too much red for seedlings.

Hah, yeh, I thought it'd be a bit cooler than it is. That said, it is nowhere near as hot as an HPS. Before I put in a fan to help move the air I had a few hotspots under the lights where the temps went to about 35C, with a little air movement the tents temps have dropped to a nice steady 28C all over. I can't switch clusters of lights, like you I was a bit concerned by how red everything looked. The plants don't seem to mind, they are growing as fast as I was hoping so it's all good. Also, I couldn't be bothered to play with my camera settings when I took the photo, but the light doesn't look nearly as red as that - prob to do with me removing the IR-cut filter from my lens for astrophotography.

Now at day 13. Plant 2 getting some spots on her leaves. Time to start adding nutes?

What spots??? looks very healthy to me, don't over think it grower. Defs are always better than a tox(almost irreversible in soil), like to let them progress before it becomes apparent their is an issue. I have a little history with this strain;-), and let me tell you that she is finicky with ferts!! she P clawed on me with organic(espoma) fert top dress. Also IDK how stable nirvana's autos are now but it didn't "auto" on me with leds and had to force 12/12 on her at 40 days in. If she doesn't show her girly parts at day 30 I would flip and deal with the less yield unfortunately.

good luck

That's awesome, thanks for the link to your grow. Fingers crossed they'll auto - I'd really like to have something ready for smoking in time for new year. I'll leave off the nutes then until they clearly want them, if I could have your yield off my three I'd be happy.

^^ Cal/mag time grower, small doses. With autos I think you want to only give "bloom"nutes throughout, too help flip them under a longer light period?I think puffenuff told me that is what Nirvana recommends for their autos.

Good luck

Thanks for your help Psuagro. I don't have any bloom nutes at the mo, but off tomorrow so will pop down the store. Would you recommend Biobizz, Canna or anyone else for the nutes?

Canna terra line is very pricey but the best for soil according to the big players.....biobizz works but shows defs on heavy feeding strains, but for autos less is more i've always thought.?.....maybe Dawg can chime in, he's very experienced with autos, I've only done one run with them.

Don't forget the Cal/mag.....Your girls already showing this deficiency....

Always have a look at the GH lines very affordable and consistently good results in all mediums.

Thanks for that. The Canna Terra is only a tiny bit more than the other nutes at my local hydro store so I'll grab some of that along with some Cal/Mag nutes. Going to start with a tiny amount and see how things go.

Slight problem on Day 21. Gave my girls a tiny bit of nutes the other day, not enough I think. But that's not the problem. They are all in 3 gallon pots and I've been giving them a bit of water every few days. Probably about 250ml each time. Now one of them is looking really unhealthy. Not sure if she's overwatered/underwatered/in fine health other then a nute deficiency. Any help would be great.

Thats a small plant for a 3 gallon pot. I'd let it dry out a bit then give it a good watering with light nutes, 25% or so runoff, to reset the medium. Definitely do a wet dry watering cycle with those big pots until they fill in.

JMHO...

Pick up the pot;-) ........if it's light, water the bitches. If your having trouble determining the moisture level, get a cheap probe/tester. Under leds patience is required, less nutes and water usually.

Good luck and be safe

All good in the end, 24 hours later the overwatered girl is looking as healthy as the other 2 - so nice and happy again. One of them has a few pistils now, close to the top of the plant. The other two are showing definite signs of female preflowers. Hooray. All three currently about 6 inches tall at Day 22 since they sprouted. One of them I tried supercropping about a week back, it is looking awesome, though I think the supercropping is prob the reason it has been the last to show preflowers. Would post pics but heading out right now and far too lazy after a day at work.

Peace
