2k DIY UC DWC

I used 27gal totes connected by 3" pvc and uniseals. There are two large disc airstones in each tote. The plants are 19" apart in each row and the rows are 24" apart from each other.

I converted a dehumidifier that I had laying around to a chiller. I Think it works out to a 1/3 HP chiller. When I dropped the condenser into the main system for the testing phase before I added plants it took my water (about 100 gallons) from 79F to 58 no problem. The lowest it will get 100 gallons is 48F in a 80F room. I'm using a 25' garden hose as a GHETTO wort chiller until my stainless steel beer making one gets here. The garden hose is EXTREMELY inefficient but is keeping my res at 70F in a 80F room. I really wish I could just drop the condenser in the rez but it's made of copper and aluminum. I was thinking about creating a partition in rez with a thin plexiglass wall silicone around the edges. I could super cool half the main rez and not have the condenser touch my nutes. However I already ordered the stainless steel worth chiller and it should be more efficient.

The dehumidifier expels a good deal of heat when it's on. It is positioned under the 6" vortex that cools my hoods. I know it's not great too pass warm air over your lights but it only raises that rooms temperature from 79F to 83 and doesn't run too often. The ballasts are also mounted near the same 6" vortex. All this hot air is passed over the lights then expelled from the entire house.

To deal with radiant heat and smell in the grow room I suck the air from the ceiling area of the grow space and pass it through a 8x39" Phresh filter. Not only does sucking air from the ceiling area get the hottest air it removes the least amount of Co2 since Co2 is heavier then air. I used a 6" vortex on top of a 8" filter, no reducer or anything, it fits like a glove. The 6" fan slips right into the 8". Since I blow threw my filter instead of suck I used 6" clamps to secure the prefilter to the inside of the filter. This is a overkill setup but I feel there is no overkill when it comes to smell. The large filter + smaller fan combo is so great because you get less restriction on your fan, air moves slower past the carbon, more then 2x the carbon for a small up charge and last but not least quieter. The filter sits next to the dehumidifier under that 6" fan that exhausts the room. I run a cap ozone generator next to that vortex too just in case the carbon filter misses anything. I don't care about the health effects of ozone because it is carried in the ducting and out the house. During late flower I also run a Vaportek 4000.

I only have one 1000w MH hooked up for now. My other is dedicated to my 4x4 tent for a week or so. All the plants are 10 weeks into flower but I'm a lazy trimmer.

I haven't set up the automatic ph controller yet but I have calibrated it. It will send power to a small pump and pump a solution of either ph up or ph down via airline tubing to right next to the ph probe in the main rez. This will ensure low doses.


My system is expandable and customizable and I feel it has more DO then the retail system due to the extra airstones and halo spraybar.

Fantastic job. I want to try DWC after I get a few soil grows under my belt, but this is on a whole other level :)

Awesome man. I like your chiller. I'm doing the same thing but with an air conditioner hah. I like your tubs too. Nice and big for awesome root growth. Looks like it's gonna be a tight fit in there tho. Keep up on the mites or its gonna kill ya getting in there and spraying.
