400HPS and Digi Thermom?

Evening all.

So, yea, I have a 400HPS lamp and a digital thermometer with 2 fans inside a wardrobe. Iv cut a hole in the side of my wardrobe to draw in fresh and cool air from the window and circulate it around inside my w'drobe. Anyways, I decided to see how well my plants will do after giving it some strong, up close light rather then it being 2 foot away and cant seem to get the temp right, regardless of fans. What I have done is move the light down, point one fan towards the light outwards so it can push hot air out of the open w'drobe doors and the other smaller light drawing in air from the outside in line with the light bulb so it can cool it down with cooler air. Anyways, to the point now, my thermo still reads way high. 90F infact, even thought I have to fans on it and the doors open? I mean, I know the lights are hot but THAT hot? With 2 fans? Seems bizarre. Is my thermo screwing up? Is it accurate and the temps really are that hot or do Digi Thermos have a tendancy to give false readings?

I also keep my thermo amongst my plant pots to make sure that the area the plants are in is warm enough for max growth. Any words of wisdom grately appreciated! Thanks in advance!

It could be that hot in there depending on how well insulated the cabinet is. Buy a cheap Dollar Store thermometer (not digital) and see what that one reads.

Really not well insulated. In fact, the back panels on the w'drobe are missing and like I said, its right next to the window so surely it should get a nice amount of cool fresh are. The w'drobes only some cheapy Ikea flat pack, I beleive. Just made of cheap chipboard.

You need a sealed, vented hood with two vents. One vent stays open to draw the hot air from inside the cabinet through the light. The other vent is connected to dryer hose, then vented out the top of the cabinet and into the outer room. You can use a Hurricane fan on top of the cabinet, connected to the dryer hose, to pull the air out of the cabinet. Do this and your temps will drop dramatically.
