Hey guys, new to this so I would like to know a good lighting system... I live outside of the US so parts are hard to replace if it fails... I need something reliable and efficient, anyone have any suggestions?

A 600 watt hps is probably your best bet. They are cheap to begin with-I haven't kept up with prices but I think the Vivosun fixture sells for $129 on Amazon.

I’d put a 1000 watt in that 4x4 if you want to go HID
Just have a spare bulb on hand.
This or 2 400WATT for HID; if only local hardware store, use biggest cfl bulbs you can find and buy or build reflector. You can get some great growth with cfls if need be

If you have a hard time getting bulbs led would be best. You won't need to replace anything for a decade.

Which led would you recommend? I thought hid because most have said it gets biggest yields... although some have said it’s the other way around... but do you think that led are more reliable and less fail safe?

im assuming your in like india or someplace like that....maybe phillipines...idk
but youll probably wanna stick to something low energy so the spike doesnt make anyone suspicious

so a good LED would be best especially because they last for a lot longer than say a T5 or HID

how big of a space are you lighting? like how many plants and what size pots (total substrate volume)?

you have to give a bit more info or were all just shooting in the dark

HID is always a safe option. There is not as many led panels and parts available in the EU. UK seems to be a little different though. HID is being manufacturered allover the place and pricing is cheaper than ever.

600w HPS is the most cost effective if you count in performance vs price. A bulb typically cost about 30 bucks and ballast about 50-60$ being magnetic.

It all depends. What size tent? How much do you expect to get from a crop? What is your budget?

Starting off with a 4x4 tent and see how it goes then go bigger... that’s the plan for now maybe 4 planteas of now is the plan...

I’m looking to honestly achieve a pound with the 4x4 tent... I think it’s realistic I hear some get 2 pounds so 1 should be a good ideal...

I’ve ran dual 400s in the past. You would be better off going with a single 600 IMO.

HID is so cheap now.

1lb is easy in a 4x4. Especially with a 1000watt.
In fact you should be 20-24oz if you got everything going good.

you can pull a 1lb out of a 3x3 with a 600watt pretty easy

A 600W digital ballast using mh/hps combo will get you 1 1/2 - 2 lbs easily in a 4x4. I use a 400W mh/hps and average about 23-27 ounces per harvest in a 4x4 with 4 plants. You definitely do not need a 1000W hps like so many are saying lately for some reason. Or an led around 450-600W real power draw from the wall. A quantum board knockoff should do good if you can't get the real thing where you are. Led should theoretically last you for 5-10 years. With hid lighting you need to replace bulbs every year at least, and it's possible it could just burn out after a month and need replacing. With led's you have hundreds of led's on one light so you can lose an individual diode and still be good.

I've also run both; I find it hard to get 1 GPW with 600 whereas my last grow under a 400Watt in a 2'x4' space gave me 500g. OP go with dimmable 1000Watt, if not 2 400Watt will work for less energy usage and heat; some people like LEDs but you will have to fork over closer to $1000. I get dimmable 1000Watt HID complete setup both bulbs for around $150. Hard to beat that price if $ an issue
