5 grows under belt ... troubleshooting light weight buds...

So I'm 5 grows in now and I'm consistently getting 100+ grams per plant, 5gallon smart pots growing in a 7ft room.

I've grown 3 different strains, but the latest was Sour Diesel.

They grow well but compared to store bought, it's about 1/4 the weight for the same size of bud.

I'm using MaxiBloom for veg, and MaxiBloom + KoolBloom for flower. Calmag+ all the way through.

The plants look fairly healthy. The only thing I see is that the stems go a little purple most times.

I've gotten up to 4tsp of MaxiBloom in veg, and 4tsp MaxiBloom + 1tsp KoolBloom for flower and was doing a feed, feed, water cycle. On the second feed, about 3 days after, the edges of the leaves start to get a slight crisp sometimes so I'm assuming I'm pushing the plants as hard as I can.

I haven't overwatered or underwatered since my second run.

Could the lighter bud be from my lights? Just not enough photons?

I'm running 2xCXM22 with a hlg-185h-48A at about 80%. I haven't checked what wattage that is from the wall.

I'd love to hear some thoughts on what I should tweak to get some heavier bud.

Thanks!

Im no expert , it seems like your doing everything right...i know low stress training or topping.. Or both, helps max out bud size.. It has worked great for me. ..i do outdoor so im Not. educated on light systems As for purple stems could be genetics .. Or colder temps bring it out.. Unless its somthin other than that somone will know for sure.. Good luck onward!

I believe bud density is a combination of strain, which you've said you've tried a few so it's possibly not that but the other two factors I would look at are light and temperature. I'm not 100% on this one but I've heard from a very reputable local grower that temp during flowering plays a huge factor in bud density. They say if it's too hot your buds will end up airy and light.

yes lighter airy buds can be from substandard flowering lights, pests, or bad humidity, or high temps, or over feeding(like pushing plants to the limits) because they lock up the root zone. Its always good to get those standards down first then you know its genetics, until then its a game like whack a mole with one issue after another.

I guess I missed a few lol, but yeah root lock could definitely be an issue if you're seeing that the leaves are noticeably not as healthy

The leaves look healthy... the odd time on second feed i get the little serrated leaf tips ever so slightly curl and get a tad crispy.

I up the nutes very slowly and they seem to like it but end of run is always light.

Temps hover between 70-75 the entire grow.

I tend to run at 60%RH and lower it each week into flower and stop at about 40-45%

So you are running around 150 watts total over 5 plants? In a "7ft room" - does that mean 7 square feet, or 7' x 7', or 7 feet tall? More info please. If you are getting 500 grams from 150 watts, congrats- you are one of the best growers here! My thinking is you need more light, plain and simple. More light= more yield up to a point anyway.

Edit: I misread your post thinking it said you are growing 5 plant and 100 gram per plant. How many plants are you growing?

1-2 plants. Usually 1.

Room is 2x3. 7ft high. Plants are usually 4-5ft in height at harvest. I should say 100g per run as i fill the canopy regardless of the number of plants.

The buds just aren't as dense as store bought.

I am guessing the light is a touch under powered.

Okay, I am running a 2x3 scrog (acutally a little under 2x3 -- 5.1 square feet or so) and consistently pull 7 ounces from 2 plants using around 250 watts of led strips. So, around twice as many watts and twice the yield. My vote is to double your lights.

Also, I have grown different strains in there with about the same results unless I mess up the grow - which does happen!
