one thing 2 remember is 2 not strain your self on digging the hole 2 deep, ive seen 13 foot plants in a one foot raised bed =2foot deep organic soil , and this year i seen plants in a 3 foot deep x2 ftwide hole that are olny 4 foot tall. the key thing is 2 go wide becuze clones roots love 2 grow side ways. your whole depending on the soil can only drain so well so my mistake was when i waterd i got the whole top wet but what i didnt realize is the water was not penatrating far enoungh, if i took my time and slowly watgered it in i would have been able 2 dump alot more water then i realized it would take,i was using a 5 gallon bucktet at a time, i probly could of used 10-15 gallons, so there for im dissapointed in my supossed u be monster, good luck 2 all a rototillers as deep as it needs 2 be just start with a 3 foot clone in a 5 gal pot at may, u will be surprized, or a green house would be nice, growing big plants is the shit, some advice i got was use chicken shit compost, ive also heard of puting horse shit on top of your holes and it magically attracts worms.

5150 what are your genetics and soil choice??

I got the clones from medical card holders meeting. it had G-13 wriiten on the cups.

I dug a 3x3x3 hole and filled with fox farm ocean forrest soil mixed with 35% to 40% perlite.

This is what I think happend in my case. The Fox farms OF let my clones grow a huge root ball thru that 40% rich FF pelite mix. then when that root ball out grew that 3x3 hole my plants just exploded from the backyard soil. The soil is full of worms to the max. everything I plant back here is the biggest I have ever seen. I showed this in my grow thread. Sunflowers and 2lb tomatos.

Next year I will do everything the same. But one plant I will try a 2x2 hole.

Also to the poster above. I find 35 to 40 percent perlite helps water drain right thru your soil mix to fill up those large holes fast.

I would not mix 40% pelite if the grow was NOT in my backyard. With 40% and a hot day you must water everyday. This sucks but your plant will grow like mad. I can dump 3 gallon bucket into the base of my plants. It will only take 10 sec. or so to drain and be gone.

I would aslo like to say that although I grew for about 7 years off and on both outdoor and indoor. when I planted these plants I had no idea they would turn out like this. This grow is a shock grow. Total panic grow ever sense I knew they would be monsters. God has gifted me with rich primo backyard soil.

Wow 5150 you have been blessed! Have fun trimming... lol

That's cool that you didn't expect them to explode like that. I run about 20% perlite and you're right, you do have to water more but you get to feed more too. Plus if you're in pots the soil doesn't get too hot because the water drains out so well. You can add fresh water to cool your roots.
