I'm on day 51 on my nirvana WWs myself, yours are looking great!

*edit* i dont want to clog up your post with my pics, but I have a few on some other posts if you'd like to check them out. I'm a little interested to see the difference in suppliers and the effect on the strain :)

This will be my first harvest.

I don't know if I should give it a few more days though. Should I give it a few days of darkness? it will be exactly 8 weeks since I flipped to 12/12 tomorrow.

Amber trichomes. I have heard two very contrasting facts. Some say Amber is undesirable and will ruin the high because of the CBN produced from harvesting too late. Some say more amber trichomes (20%-30%) Will produce a more couchlock or "stoned" Effect and be highly sedative and relaxing.

I am confused about harvesting though. its been 8 weeks and all the buds have a combo of orange and white hairs. Do i have to wait for all of them to be orange?

That ... is a very dividing question. Some people believe that the clear/cloudy trichomes are the best ... others swear that its better to be mostly cloudy with some ambers ...

About the hairs ... I'm not sure lol. Its been many years since I last grew, and I've forgotten so much. Hopefully some more active growing members will be on to answer ... I'd love to see their responses as well haha

It's tough.

Every bud has orange and white hairs. Some buds have amber, but most have clear/cloudy.
I totally see why people will not have a harvest day, but a harvest week where they take them little by little.

I thought that it would be a little more uniform but these bud developments look weeks apart. The strain info says flowers in 8 weeks. It's been 55/56 days now. Maybe shoot for 60?

I really would much rather get stoned than get high. I honestly want it to put me to sleep because I have issues falling asleep.

Same tbh. Post em. Idc. At least it's about harvesting white widow which is exactly what I'm doing.

Looking good! I'd wait 2-3 weeks or longer till chop though.

2-3?! They advertised 8. :-|. Oh well, I guess time will tell. I shaved off four hours of light to make it mature faster so I'm on 6/18 as opposed to 12/12. Could be dead wrong about that though because I read it some where else.

Yeah, use the advertised flowering time as a guide only. Not only do seeds vary in floweing time, the health of the plant and all of the environment values comes in to play also which may or may not slow down the flowering period ect... So generally, its best to watch the swelling or ask for advice if your not familiar.

I've never ran 6/18, that just sounds kind of crazy lol so i can't speak about if it will work or not, if it were me i would be patient untill i see the calyx's getting swollen. The trichomes pop out at your face when this happens, usually making it easy to see amber/cloudy with the naked eye. Imo, the high feels more "complete" and long lasting if you dont chop too early.

I've heard of people going straight darkness the last two or three days before harvest, but personally I've always kept them at 12/12 - but to each his own! As long as you get a good healthy harvest and good smoke, the process doesn't always matter!

The first thing you need to know is that there are 3 "states" in a trichomes development.

The first state is clear. Clear trichomes contain precursor cannabinoids (cannabinoids are the different substances in cannabis).
These precursor cannabinoids are not psychoactive (they do not produce a 'high') yet and harvesting clear trichomes will not give you a proper harvest.

The second state is cloudy/milky. Cloudy trichomes contain fully realized THC (the by far main contributing substance in any cannabis high).
You want to get as close to 100% cloudy trichomes @ harvest to get the most potency out of your plant. It's impossible to get 100% cloudy trichomes, since trichomes are always being produced and are always maturing, even after harvest the trichomes will continue to develop.

The third state is amber. Amber trichomes contain degraded THC --> CBN. CBN represents a loss of 90% potency (from THC).
CBN is not desirable in any harvest, since it not only represents a huge loss of potency but research into the substance has also shown that CBN does not produce a high like THC does, CBN produces a more sickly feeling not a true high.
Understanding the difference between clear - cloudy - amber trichomes is essential in getting a proper harvest with a peak potency.

The strain phenotype (wether it's a Sativa or and Indica) determines overall wether you get an energetic high or a couch lock high.
It's a common misunderstanding that amber trichomes produce a couch lock high, it's mainly because wrong information has been spread around and people keep perpetuating it, in the end everybody believes it's fact when in reality it isn't.
As already stated in the thread; amber trichomes contain degraded THC --> CBN.
CBN does not really produce a high, it does affect the high but not in a positive way.
CBN is pain relieving (as are most cannabinoids) but it does not reduce muscle tension/spasm.
Cannabinoids like CBD, CBG and CBC affect the high more than CBN does.

And then there's this last little bit at the end.

I've used most of Nebula Haze's info on her site and it's gotten me this far. IDK who to trust. Because according to her mine is due to be cut TOMORROW since 70% of the hairs are orange but not all. Now i got people telling me 2-3 weeks. There's no completely solid info and that bugs me a ton. Especially since both people who said it seem fairly credible with experience and expertise.

My reasoning behind it is that less light triggers the flowering phase since days get shorter. Light makes the plant produce hormones and the amount of hormones produced during a light cycle is what makes the plant either want to veg or flower. Using less light will make it flower more but reduce yield due to less photosynthesis taking place. i only cut the light down a few days ago though.

I've also read an article where it was found that clear had the most thc lol. It's a crap shoot since a lot of the science behind the plants is still in its infancy and most knowledge is personal (ie, on my grow, xyz).

i know, right? not like a lot of us have been doing this for decades or anything...

all we have to do now is figure out what shape to make our wheel...

Why can't we have a completely solid answer? You'd think legalizing rec MJ in colorado (to smoke AND grow) for 4 years would provide us with a little more insight, but I feel like its a complete crap shoot with info all over the internet and what not:cuss:. Like I bought molasses to boost yield and bud weight, but apparently its like useless:?? IDK i still used it though.

I get that. totally not dissing anybody's experience, its just that a lot of people with a lot of experience still differ on many aspects of cultivation. That's why we're rather frustrated about not knowing what is a fallacy in the grow room and what isn't. But I guess i'll go with my gut on this one (like everybody else has for decades).
