Hello,

I am brand new to this forum, been growing for a few years now. The seeds had been put straight into the rooters for germ. They were in for about 10 hours before the room temp dropped to 56 F for about 5 hours. I quickly fixed the situation and brought the room up to a nice 80 F. I am just wondering if this killed the seeds :( ? Appreciate the help!

Welcome to the forum. You are fine, this happens in nature continuously. My newest hack is 2 plastic totes and a simple fish tank heater. Just put the heater [set to around 80 degrees F] add 4 inches of water, next, set the second tote inside the one with the heater. I do the paper towel method but you can do it however you want. Very even temp and, if you lose power for a while the water will hold the temps up longer. Oh yeah, you will want to leave the lid on the seed bearing chamber. Good growing

Some folks will put seeds in the fridge. Mimic the winter cycle right before the warm temps of spring.

Besides cannabis. There's plants that require a cold period before growing. One is the opium poppy. It won't sprout for crap unless the seeds go through a freeze.

Your seeds will be alright.

I store my seeds in the freezer and they germinate fine. I think the issue could be if the seed cracked then got cold but for 5 hours I doubt it'll make difference.

My fondest memories were during the wild pheasant hunting in Michigan
Walking thru the fields in the fall and spreading seeds like Johnny apple seed and after a heavy snowy winter
we would return to the same fields to hunt the next fall and there were plants everywhere
Point is seeds make it thru cold temps all the time...You're fine

I've wondered about that. Any seeds I get I put them in the fridge but didn't think the freezer would also work. I've popped seeds 3 years later.

It works better IMO because you're not open/close your freezer as much as you do your fridge. I popped a few the other day that been in there since BC (before covid) time. Half straight soil half paper towel and they all sprouted.

Good point. But I'm-a-feared.
They're all in a second fridge I open maybe once or twice a week. I'll try it though. Gotta friend who passes on all his seeds he finds in his stuff he buys. Not a lot just one or two in bag every now and then. I've done moonshine, Amnesia haze, a few others he wasn't sure about. I'll throw HIS into the deep freeze. At least till I build up my courage.

Airtight container is al that is needed in the refrigerator
Moisture is the enemy, opening and closing the door is of no concern

My wife is on several meds. So I save her pill bottles. Labels removed of course.
They're all amber colored or opaque so great for light protection and they're tight fitting. I store all seeds I get from donations in them and label it for what strain they are,(or what strain people think they are). I just realized the bottles also come with little desiccant packets. I should start using them also.
I also use them for giving people tastes.
Any seeds I buy stay in their shipping packaging until I'm ready for them.
