Didn't know where to post this, if in wrong section accept my apologies!

Have a 600w digital ballast that's about 8 months old now (don't know the brand - it's silver with electronic ballast written up both sides) and it has stopped working after a bulb blew.

Got a new bulb but not a thing out of it, have also changed the fuse in the ballast plug but still nothing...

Any ideas what could be wrong or where to go from here?

Cheers bongsmilie

I'm not 100% on this but I'm pretty sure some electronic ballasts have safety features in them that keep the ballast from turning back on right away after a bulb blows, or if theres a power outage. Someone correct me if im wrong.

Call the place you got it from, and tell them what you told us. Look for receipts, and maybe even call the manufacture.
Got it from ebay, but seller is no longer there! Don't know the brand of it either to call manufacturer, it's silver and says "electronic ballast" 3 times up each side, other than that there's no markings.

This sounds promising! Anyone add any info?

do you have some pics of it?? Sound kinda scary (company not there and no brands or anything). maybe if we can see it someone will recognize it.

Metal Halide and HPS bulbs both require a few minutes after shutdown to power back up. I think MH takes longer (about 8 minutes). This doesn't sound like your problem, though. You say your bulb "blew." Did it just stop working, or did it actually blow up?

Something to try:

Plug the ballast into a different socket (you may have blown a fuse), or try plugging something else into where the ballast is plugged in.

A lot of these digital ballast are pointless to open and inspect as the components aren't really accessible once inside. Your wire leading from the ballast to the lamp is accessible, though. Unplug the ballast and see if you can't inspect the wire running to the light socket. Also, check for burn marks from arcing. Check at the point the light screws into the socket, and if possible, check where the wire goes into the socket (from the ballast).

Having some problems with my own at the moment (turns on and off for no evident reason), so I'm interested in what is up with yours. Hope this helps a bit.

Superb mate, as you suggested here:

Just did that mate and it sorted my shit out... It was my shade/wiring not ballast

I've had one of my 600w out for a while in my 2 light tent and have tried 4 more maxibright digis to no avail, they all repeatedly fused my leccy.

It's been really frustrating.

I was well disappointed and thought how shit for all my digis to die as there's only a few years old with low use.

I was gonna buy a new one tomorrow but thought it's worth googling maxibright 600 w won't start and find this thread.

Had to register in this group to feed back your successful advice and help.

Nice one family... Thanks
