This is my first grow with the 600 watt hps. I have been growing with a ufo LED until now and have not been to excited about the results.
specs

7 hash plant seeds
2 bag seeds

grow cab
GrowLab GL80
31 inches (80 cm) wide by 31 inches (80 cm) deep by 5 feet, 11 inches (180 cm) tall.
It has a footprint of 6.9 square feet and a total internal volume of 40.7 cubic feet.

fan
Vortex CFN-400 High Power 172 CFM 4 inch Inline Fan
w/insulated ducting
I made a silencing box for the fan yesterday because it sounded like a jumbo jet.

Fox farm ocean forest soil
Flora nova nutes

2 gallon pots

I am starting this grow journal late. They sprouted from seed about 7 weeks ago. I just started giving them nutes last week for the first time. There second feeding was this morning.

Lets see what this 600 watt HPS can do!!!!!

first question......
I vegged them for about 6 weeks under the old ufo led. I switched to the 600w 3 days ago. If you would look at the last image you can see some of the leaves on the tallest 2 plants are folding up in a weird way.
Is this because of heat?

Just hooked up the ducting yesterday and it is running at about 88 degrees.
I know that this is a little hot but I didn't think it would be to much of a problem.
Any Ideas?
or critiques about my grow room.
thanks for watching.

the heat needs to come down.Dont just vent outside the tent, vent outside the room. I have seen entire gardens produce great looking buds with little or no potency because of heat. Make sure the ph is correct on the plants and the water you use to feed them also. otherwise looking good.

What temp do you think I should shoot for?
I don't really have the option to vent to the outside of the room. Do you mean like out a window or into the next room or something?

The ducting just takes from the light and spits it out the top of the cab.
what would you suggest to get my temps down / on a budget?

I have been balancing my water at 6 ph. So that is where it needs to be.
you say make sure it is correct on the plants and the water. What do you mean "on the plants"?

thanks for the info.

still having heat problems.
the temps are staying above 88 almost all the time.
is it possible that 600 watt is to much for my size tent?
maybe I should trade down to a 400 watt?

any ideas out there

They are growing nicely. I think one of them is starting to get a little nute burn (See pic #2) so I will back off a tiny bit on that. I will most likely just skip a feeding. That should do the trick.
the temps have been staying from 88 - 83. That is my biggest problem right now. I can't decide if it is because my grow tent is to small for that size of light or what. I am thinking about getting a 400 and selling the 600. But first I am going to try to change some things around tomorrow and see if I can get the temps down. Not sure how, but I am going to give it a shot.
I included a pic of my set up so if anyone has any great ideas for me to try that require no $$$, I am all ears.

I threw in a few pics so I can document the growth. It is always cool to look back and see the progress when it feels like they are taking forever to finish.

I don't know what the bottom of the tent is like, but if possible you might try raising the bottom a little. The heat going out the top will suck cool air through the bottom and up like a chimney.

Thats a good idea but the tent is all one piece with zippers and things.

I was thinking that might lower the heat a few degrees.
Does anyone have any experience with this.

there is a space for glass in the hood but there was no glass when I bought it.
Since I have the fan and ducting connected strait to the light I thought putting glass there could be a good idea to lower heat?

So I made the switch yesterday from 600 watt hps to 400 watt hps.
My temps went down drastically last night. I am going to monitor it for the next few days and see where it likes to sit. Yesterday was kind of a cold day so I am sure that helped drop temps also.

pics to come soon.

temps at 78-82 yesterday.
I am going to modify they ducting a tiny bit and get some glass for the hood. Then (fingers crossed) maybe I will be sitting at 75 degrees

I think that if you can keep the temperature in the 80's youll be ok.. also for that size you can use the 400 hps no problem. subscribed:bigjoint:

Cool thanks man.
Yeah I am running between 78-84 right now. I have a few modifications I can work on to lower it a tiny bit more.
I am glad to hear that 80 degrees should be ok.

Pic update.
I has been about 6 days since I posted pictures. I think they have grown quite nicely now that I look at the last pic i posted on 4-9-10.
Using 400 watt hps now.

This is my first grow from seed. Can I expect 50% females or is it just a luck thing? I think I can tell that the largest plant in the back is a female.
I have included pics of HER.
let me know if I am wrong please.

also, do I have to flush between veg nutes and bloom nutes?
This is also my first grow using nutes so I am a newby here.
any help is appreciated

Yeah congrats thats a female, the 2 little hairs are the pistils, and thats the sign of a female. You can expect 50% but thats just the chance not a guarantee... its random.
About the flushing, I dont know I flush last week of flowering.
