Anyways to answer your question you’ll need a budget of minimum $4000-$5000 to light up that whole space with LED.

Hi, I have the same size room in my basement. First time growing.
Right now I have 400 W LED. The manufacturer said I can flower a 4x4 area
I ended up with 8 plants, I didn't think tbey would all germinate. Lol
What do you think?

I have exposed beam ceiling. So far is goung well.
I have a concrete basement so on two walls I used that insulation with a shiny side.
Now I read that it's flammable ( Grrrr) , but the LED lights don't really get that hot.
Do your lights generate a lot of heat?

Did pretty good with 2 650’s the 1st time. Just loo for some practical advice not a drunk rant! Thanks
He may occasionally indulge in a drunken rant, but he speaks truth about the cost of appropriate LED fixtures.
The least expensive "good" option I've found for that space would be 8 x the new Mars SP 3000 @ $399 apiece - $3200
I'm not a huge Mars-hydro fan, but this looks like a decent fixture at a reasonable price. It also offers you the opportunity to play with the spacing between fixture to get a really even PAR map for the canopy.
Another option would be 4 x an older style 10 bar fixture for around $4400. A good example of a US made version you won't have to import would be

I’m just a hobbyist growing for personal consumption and not in the least interested in a pro gro setup. Maybe 2x/year.
thanks for the input and I hope that you have a wonderful day

None whatsoever and I keep a fan and a humidifier going
That's good to hear. I hate to have to remove that insulation. I used liquid nails. Lol
May I ask what brand of lights you have? I purchased from California Lighting. They had good costumer service, but I hear some criticism of that brand. I need to get two more and I am trying to decide

OK, my bad. A hobbyist huh? And you need an 8x10 room for personal consumption? Geez ... you must have the lung capacity of a blue whale. :)
Seriously though ... what kind of lighting did you think would cover that space?

$155.
Heat won't be an issue for that space and now you can grow 2+ pounds per harvest for $155.

Or you could stick with LED and spend $1500 to get the same harvest.
Your call..
I made the same choice and purchased LED. It was all so confusing.
If I keep the plants within the confines of a 4x4 area under the light, will it be ok? Or do I have to close in the room?
I have 8 plants, mainly because I thought I would screw up and half of them might die. But, what do you know? They are growing

So you're going to hang 1000w HPS in a shit reflector under your unprotected wood ceiling joists. I'd give some serious thought to that because it's likely your insurance company will decline the claim when you burn the house down

I have 400 W LED Hanging 2 ft below my unprotected floor joist.
Do you still advise to insulate and drywall?

If you can't seem to be responsible enough to ensure you don't burn down your house with a light, then by all means stick to LED.

There are enough irresponsible people doing things already...:wall:

That is so incorrect it's just laughable. You can spend as much as you want but to say 4k minimum to light that area with good led lights is just incorrect, by a lot.
