im planning on running 2x1000w mhs and 1x1000w Hps in my 8 by 8 room. Will that be enough light for a room full of plants? How many can fit into that kinda of space in 3gal buckets?

thanks!

3 lights is good, 4 would be great! why don't ya get switchable ballast. Then you could go 3 MH for veg, and 2 HPS and 1 MH during flower. Are you going to run 120 or 220?

4 x 1000w HPS dont bother with MH'
6 x 600w would be good but not as good as the 4 x 1000w

rule of thumb 50watts per sq foot of light more the better. your room is 8x8= 64 sq foot 64 x 50 = 3200w of lights you would want to aim for id go with 4 x 1000w

Your footprint is your challenge. I'd treat it as (4) 4x4 areas and use (4) 600w lamps.
i second this notion (4) 600w HPS lamps....

but like UserFriendly said, you might want more room to maneuver in which case a 1000w HPS over a 5 by 5 foot area would also be okay.

i would use 6, 600 watt aircooled hoods.you can get closer to the tops, more light penatration and save 400 watts, with better results.
i'm not anti 600... they certainly have their place. but 1000w lamps -do- provide better penetration than a 600w lamp.

now you can argue that you get more lumens from (6) 600w bulbs (3600w total) than you would from (4) 1000w bulbs (4000) total).

i also have no trouble keeping the plants as close as 6" -8" from the cooltubes... but generally have the light around 10" from the closest plant.

the dudes gonna have to have a 1ft perimeter around the room to walk around the plants. that reduces the room to a 6' by 6' foot area. for which (4) 600watt hps bulbs would be Plenty (1) for each 3' by 3' area. (6) would be overkill.
