wats up everyone!

im here starting my third journal, fourth grow, and first HPS true grow. I just placed an order from HTG supply for a 600w lumatek digital ballast with easycool 6 inch reflector. as well as some humboldt grow and bloom organic nutes and the cheap 500 cfm inline fan with ducting and converter. i currently have a seed in soil after germinating that hasnt yet broken surface. plan on getting four more clones from local clinic. the seed is under my two LEDs from my previous grows until the package arrives. the plan is to veg 4 plants for about a month using FIM, LST, and Topping. i want a good amount of level nodes when i switch to flower. im using earthgro potting soil with large pots 11-15 L. Havent cleaned out the closet yet still have some miscellaneous stuff in there haha. shooting for a pound!

the package is scheduled for arrival on the 23rd. that means clones will be needed in next few days as well. probably going with some kush or purple.

What was the reason your no longer using your UFO LEDs? Not happy with them, or just trying something different? I was thinking about trying some UFOs to add to my tent, since I'm already using a 126 watt penetrator grow light and was thinking about adding some extra led's in there.

i was honestly very disappointed in the grows where i used my LEDs and i know HPS is tested and true so i decided to go to that. they did use less energy and were very cool which allowed for close distance to plants but overall the yield is terrible. i dont think i ever got much more than 2 1/2 zips off two UFOs combined. with a 600w its almost guarantee ill hit triple that. i was thinking of possible keepin them in for extra lighting but havent decided. thanks for the interest though.

Do you know what the specs are and what kind of spectrum they are using? I was thinking about using some UFO's to add some extra light to my grow. I was also wondering how long ago did you you purchase your lights? So far I've been happy with mine. I'm just waiting on final results but so far so good.

heres the link for the UFOs i have. when i got them they were still 599$. http://www.hidhut.com/catalog/ufo-led-grow-lights-p-1372.html. i got them a year and a half ago, used them for four or five grows from soil to hydro and still couldnt get anything worth the money.

Yea, that must be really disappointing paying all the money for something that is int going to work. I personally would not have bought those, since they don't give you much information on the spectrum that they use. Not all LED grow lights are created equal. I've heard some good stuff about this one http://www.prosourceworldwide.com/product_p/illuminator ufo.htm. Right now I'm currently using these http://www.hydrogrowled.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage_new.tpl&product_id=18&category_id=1&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=41 and I'm very happy with them. Don't give up on LED's just yet. They will eventually go down in price. Since they seem to have figured out how to make it work for MJ.

Says they are 80 watts each and made of 1 watt devices. I am playing with LEDs for coral culture as they get a lot of their energy from light. I dont think you can use anything larger than a 300 milliwatt device and should operate it at 2/3 power as heat is the kiss of death to the physics of these things. I use 100 milliwatt devices - 1000 per fixture and throttle them to 80 watts with good results. The Cree 5 watt and larger light sources are specd at 50C and 50,000 hours but suffer from droop and may lose over 1/3 of their output in 6 months. To give you an idea of how much temperature affects life the 50,000 hours at 50C becomes 150,000 hours at 30C. I think the package resistance is 9 degrees C at full rated output so data at 50C means a heatsink at 41C.
I will post more info as I determine it - BTW I use 320 watts of LED light, Seems roughly equivalent to a 1 kW halide.

all of the spectrum stuff i read in a high time mag when they first published anything on LED. my dumb ass bro thought they would be great so we wasted the money and he ended up giving up and leaving me to do everything. now were back on track with a 600w HPS. ill def keep checking out LED but right now i stll have to say that they arent ready.

So your saying LED light are not ready or your just not ready? Because there are a few LED grow lights out there that are ready, and work, and will probably only get better and cheaper over time.

Have you ever used LED's to grow? I'm assuming yes since your bashing on them. I started off with a 400Watt HPS light and had to stop using it since it was causing my temps to rise up to 110F. I had intake and exhaust running all the time and had multiple fans running with homemade CO2 in there and it still wasn't enough to drop temps. so I had to buy a 12,000 BTU AC just to bring down the temps below 90F. So you really can't " Spend your money on HPS!!!!!!!!!and be done with it" Because in reality you have to buy a lot more then just a HPS light.
So I did some research on LED's and had an open mind. So I decided to try it and it's working out a lot better then my 400watt light. The big benefits with led lights are that there quieter use half the electricity produce very little heat. And you also get resinous, dense buds.
Here's some examples of my white castle under my gay ass LED's. this is only 2 1/2 weeks of flowering.

sorry to thread jack just hate it when people talk shit about something they don't know about, and trying to give advice about it.

hahaha alright im glad a few ppl got some stuff out but i would really be stoked if you guys could keep it to these first couple pages and not ruin my whole thread. ya ive used LEDs check my previous grows and youll see ive done multiple grows in different styles all with there own problems. i know that LEDs are very energy efficient, run quieter, and produce some dense buds if close. but i never had anything sucessful IMO to brag about. the technology is changing and has been since they were introduced but i got stuck in the beginning with the shitty expensive ones. after a year and a half of trying to make these lights work for me im sick of it. therefore im changing from LED to HPS, if you guys dont agree im sorry. if those of you who like LED want to buy a couple more hit me up im willing to get rid of them.

MYGTO- knock it off please. ive converted so be happy you got one to join your team haha.

FUZZY- glad you stopped by and like the title. hope you stick around, will probably need some experienced help.

IRON- stoked your doing well with LED and understand completely everything youve said. your plant looks great for only 2 1/2 weeks hope it continues. LED just to me for price and results isnt ready to be compared to HPS. they are great for ppl in your exact situation and they will only get better.
