Great article on molasses from the Three Little Birds: http://forum.grasscity.com/indoor-ma...ur-plants.html

-Enjoy, I learnt a lot!
My trick is raw honey.... I learnt from my uncle in Tanzania he grow sativas and his nutes are rain sun and raw honey he mixes with rain water and it's a carb that comes from a flowering plant digested by the Bee then easily absorbed by the plants.... Or should I say for my plants gotta be RAW AND ORGANIC as possible, iv tried molasses and plant's don't seem to be fond of it plus I know it has probably 5times better stuff in it than honey.. But to their own I see thriving front honey and crazy crystals plus sweet buds. And I can chop after giving honey water as my last watering with no issues on the smoke quality .
Good thread tho.. What's your experience with it?
Hope this helps

This sentence extracted from that link you gave sums up the only need for molasses in growing:

"Why Molasses?
The reason nutrient manufacturer’s have “discovered” molasses is the simple fact that it’s a great source of carbohydrates to stimulate the growth of beneficial microorganisms".

I love molasses! (I'd give you 2 likes if I could on the molasses) Been using it for years...and Labs has me thinking about honey now too since he mentioned it on another thread. I never heard the honey thing but it makes basic sense.

Going to study up on what's in honey and how it compares to the traditional molasses.

I also heard some 'it attracts bugs' opinions about molasses from others over the years who are skeptics...which that article contradicts somewhat...
I've never had serious bugs inside...outside you have some no matter what. Just watch out for those green tomato horn worms, they're real hungry.

I just hate fertilizer companys in our industry that are palming off molases and claiming its there new *super formula*
I hear ya...

I peek on the back of some of those whacky $20 a bottle products at the grow stores sometimes. 10% molasses, 20% molasses...

I buy what I need, leave the $20 bottles of unnecessary crap on the shelf...

This has always been my impression although I know peat medium growers who swear by it too. I used it one grow (my second) in peat and saw nothing amazing.

Molasses is used to feed the micro organisms in the soil. Your plant in no way what so ever sucks it up out of the soil! Read the book called "Teaming with Nutrients" It will give you an understanding of how a plant gets its nutrients from the Rhizosphere.
