Had good results managing a moderate but growing presence of gnats by :
-some airflow circulating at top of the pots height
-sifting diatomaceous earth* on topsoil (maybe incorporating it a bit) and around containers.
-avoiding watering from the top
-yellow sticky stripes are good too

*constantly keeping costs low is good and DE may not fit here. If found the price barely ok by buying 1kg at large surf. store, wished to try it in chicks dirt bath. At least it can find multiple uses.
Look for 100% DE, food grade

I have fans blowing over the totes, they seem to get blown to one wall where I smack them with my fly swatter lol.
Thought about DE ,perhaps better at beginning of cycle when I don't top dress as much.At this stage Im constantly top watering over my dry amendments to keep the food flowing.Sand I have already and has been reused a few times.Very effective at breaking the cycle and can still top water through it.

My new rule will be sand goes in right at transplant,My cooking soil also has sand on it.Ill break the chain sooner or later.

Friggen Gnats!

Another Sunday rolls around. Continuing with Gaia veg and bloom topdress and some ewc.
One plant giving me some trouble as said last post. What appears as a calcium problem. Plant was always a little pail looking after stretch. Thought what the hell see what happens if I feed her some salts. Mixed up about 1.3 EC and a few drops of calmag. Have fed her three times now. Not seeing a difference but at same time not seeing the spots spread so will see I guess. Some pics of her. If anyone gots any suggestions I’m all ears. 665E6D4C-DA99-42EA-9AE8-6288967DBA88.jpeg0A54A08E-CFFA-4B36-A238-817DC9B2B575.jpeg

yes, nothing new to you.
had just the same problem in soil and never had it in cocos or any other hydro grow before.
prob try to give earlier on bat guano this time, while the soil itself this time is armed with lots of stuff, hmm.
tag me if you find something.

Yes, being new to re using soil makes me think Im out of balance a little.Next round Ill have some freshly cooked to compare to 2-3 cycle soil.

In Canada and always frugal with new stuff, bat guano isnt available Locally.Bone meal is cheap, perhaps a few tbls next round.

i have my first soil cooking, which i plan to reuse, so not really much practical clue there.
the bat guano i grabbed as it seemed to be good stuff, overall a nice package, many P sources out there.
Canada is huge and full of ressources, bet you will find some good shit.
i just used a few table spoons guano last grow in flower and i think it helped to counter the P def., took a few days but it stopped or slowed it, my thunb told me
not so easy to find a good dose, while its not so strong it seems.
i have some hopes for the added charged biochar this grow, as it was quite rich in P and K and should provide an exellent nutirent buffer.

Happy new year!
was gone for the Christmas break had a friend look after my grow. Sips make it easy all he had to do was fill them up every 2 days.
Ill post For each plant to make it easier.
This one was the first to show the red so it’s been getting the fish too watered over the Gaia. Seems to have really helped. Will continue to add. I’m doing 10 ml a litre. And poring that on every two days. 6 tablespoons Gaia veg/bloom every 7 days. C92529ED-78A0-4039-9139-C84FEAA1945E.jpegDC9627EB-C620-453A-80C0-D78C28A6235D.jpeg

Some pics from the veg room. Clones were transplanted almost a month ago. Growing good in promix with some Gaia 444. This batch only cooked for 10 days or so. Was a little slow at getting it done. Lazy. lol.
Took the tops off of each for clones and trimmed up the lowers. Trying to get the 4 mains up a little higher so there not in the way of my sip lids. First pic is after the topping.
Will maybe trying firing up my rdwc system next run for the new clones. 55258E7E-4430-4962-B813-20C842401F0E.jpeg3CC89BD1-A17D-45B7-AC19-4112EA915703.jpeg
