The only thing all people care about is "WHATS IN IT FOR ME"?? I have talked with folks, including my mommy and my sister, about MJ legalization. There are a lot of people that don't understand why it isn't legal already. One is the money spent to keep it illegal. Remember that Lou Dobbs piece. They were talking about the huge contributions of Billionaires to fund our campaign, like it was a lot of money. $750,000,000.00 for the DARE (wtf does that stand for) program that doesn't work.
If I could show you how to wipe out your states deficite would you listen? DejaVue all over again. If you want me to listen to all the great things this super weed can do, and how the government has lied to us all these years show me whats in it for me. Its the economics of the situation.
(Changing gears, wait I gotta hit this again. OK.)
So I joined my state's NORML figuring that might be a place to start. I live in the Capitol City and there isn't a local chapter of NORML. Matter of fact there aren't very many within 100 miles. I received an e-mail from a guy that lives close by, long story short we went to the Oakland County Norml Meeting. To say it was disorganized would be kind. You couldn't hear the person speaking because of the jukeBox.
My state has a MEdical MJ Bill 'in committee' and through the hard work of some dedicated NORML people, the Democrates have signed on to the bill. Buit just in case they can't get it out of committee we are getting commitments to fund a ballot initiative They hvae $200,000.00 promised and just need to raise another $50,000.00 to start moving forward. Soo... being my NORML laid back self, I had to ask. why would you spend a quarter of a million dollars to fund a ballot initiative to legalize medical MJ. Why not go for the whole thing? You mean decriminalize? No I mean legalize, regulate and tax. I started throwing around some figures from research I had done, and I did have one guy listening so maybe some discussion will take place.
Two reasons were given. They took polls and they polls showed that the majority of folks would vote for Medical MJ, but not for legalization. Now lets see, you call me on the phone and ask me if I'm for the legalization of MJ. Paranoia sets in, whose knockin' on my door next week? You didn't ask me if you could show me how to wipe out our states deficit without anyone spending anymore money, would I support that. If you had asked that I might have said yes.
The second was it doesn't fit the agenda. The agenda is medical first, then hemp, and then MJ. If we wait that long, someone with power will figure out a way to set-up a big f***ing organization to regulate MJ. Remember Medicaid. Started as a small program to help a few people. I could live the rest of my life and yours on the money we spend on it now.
The logical thing to do, of course, is to legalize MJ. But it has to be done with minimal controls. And if it is to happen in my lifetime it will have to be done at the state level. 22 states have ballot initiatives available. I'm sure they are cumbersome and you probably need a lawyer to write one that covers all the rules for being placed on the ballot, after all you are stepping into the legislators private territory of setting laws.
I believe that an organized campaign that focuses on the benefits of legalizing MJ can succeed. 90,000,000 people have smoked it, thats almost one third of the entire population. And the latest estimate I've seen is that 25,000,000 are regular smokers, thats about 1 in twelve. How many voted in the last election? ITS THE ECONOMY . Slick Willy got elected president that way.

I just realized something strange. one in twelve is also the number of prisoners in state and federal prison on MJ possesion charges. Guess we are well represented there, unless we aren't black or brown or Asian gang members or ..... I think you get the idea.

With different types of minds working together we can conquer. I believe all of those minds are here on this site. We all have relative skills that we could use to launch a SUCCESSFUL campaign.
