i have a 2700 k (kelvin) red spectrum cfl and a 5000 k full spectrum cfl. my ? is ... do you think it would be okay to use both bulbs all the way to the end or should i use the full spec first then the red? any insight would be great.

You won't be able to grow much with single bulbs. That's the first thing. The second thing has to do with those spectra, I'm assuming you have the concept of "color temperature" thing. So next is which does best in which phase of growth, right? Because we're dealing with a flowering plant.

That said, 6500K (or that 5000K you've got, which is closer to the actual light quality of the sun, which is 5500K) are lights that have stronger peaks in the blue end of the spectrum. Therefore, understanding how the quality of sunlight changes through the seasons, and knowing that flowering plants need light in the red spectrum to induce and properly flower, we use the bluer lights for vegetative growth and add the redder lights once flowering begins. Make sense?
