I want to set up 5 plants in a location i will only be visiting once a week. It is not my place and i want to be as safe as possible. I would be very grateful if somebody could tell me all the potential fire hazards of using a 600w digital ballast system for a 3 foot by 4 foot by 6 foot wooden enclosure with a 4 inch vortex blower exhaust fan.
thanks much

I have looked into these, seems really neat.

i know it's a weird question, but has anyone ever had a fire and had one of these put it out?
i would like to see if it actually kicks on at 150 or if its a cheep gauge and it might just explode from they heat of the fire.

if they work well I could see them being a good investment

that looks great- i will definitely be adding one of those- what about chance of fire after a short power outage and restart of light?

i put my ballast on a piece of tile and make sure it is away from any flamables and make sure you are using proper gauge wires and outlets to reduce chance of wires overheating and creating fire hazzard and keep grow room super clean i would consider twice a week as they mature they need more regular waterings as much as every other day. good luck and stay safe.

thanks for the advice- definitely will be surge protecting and the tile for the ballast is a great idea. I will be setting up an automatic drip system and getting a light with a glass front so the plants can't touch the bulb. I will also always a keep the lights higher than needed to err on the side of caution.

Don't forget Smoke Detectors in each of you're grow rooms.

Im pretty sure there is a demonstration vid out there. And from what I remember when they go off, nothing is salvagable.

i know you're going to only be there once a week but for general knowledge flame retardant can materials give off poisonous gasses so if it does all go up in flames don't hang around! a few years ago i remember a case where a few electronics companies were using a type of flame retardant casings for their products. as the products were in use they heated up the casing and caused the casings to emit the poisonous gas so be careful and do some research cause that stuff can kill you as quick (if not quicker) than fire if you aren't careful!

hope this is useful folks!
