Acoustic Duct

I need my ventilation to be quiet. Anyone ever use "acoustic duct"?

If so:

(1) did it make everything quiet?

(2) where did you get it?

yes it makes a huge difference, mine went from a loud whooshing noise that i could hear from another room to barely being able to hear it in the room, if your from the uk most grow shops have it, cheaper on ebay though.

I got mine at Rona.. home depot carries it too.. Lowe's I would imagine... you can also buy it by the foot at Rona. (don't know about the others)
Yes makes a big difference as said.

i use it in my grow room. its brill. get it from ebay uk. also known as insulated ducting. it comes in 5 metre lengths squashed up in to a box 1200mm long.
if you cannot get it on ebay usa, then email a few ebay member ducting companys from your ebay account and they will tell you who stocks it or who may stock it.

Well, I googled ROMA, but saw no acoustic duct listed. I was in Home Depot but saw nada. Is it listed under a different name? Also I was under the impression that acoustic ducting and insulated ducting are different. Am I off base on that?

they look the same but acoustic ducting has loads of little holes on the inside layer! ive used both and insulated does a good job aswell.

That's what I was thinking. I have seen nothing like this @ HD or Lowes. I even googled "acoustic duct" and got NADA. So I'm wondering where - other than the UK - that I can get this stuff in the USA.

I'm trying to avoid having to buy a duct muffler @ $75. I would rather have the problem not exist rather than trying to solve it. Already have the fan controller for my 6" fan.

I couldn't find it on the Rona website either for you, but I assure you I bought it there - it's in the same area as all the other ducting.
It was on Home Depot's site though.

accoustic ducting is used where a noisy fan system may cause noise interference in a room where the duct passes through/passed/over it.

insulated ducting is used where a duct may be carrying very warm or very cold air and the surrounding atmospheric temperature might affect the ducts performance to hold that cold or warm air, in other words if an uninsulated duct is carrying cold air and it passes through a very hot place like a boiler room or furnace room that air will definitely rise in temperature inside the duct, thus affecting an air conditioning system or freezers cooling performance.

the other thing i noticed was my accoustic ducting has a chrome plastic covering, and my insulated ducting has a more metalic covering a bit like tin foil and easy to tear.

That HD stuff is insulated ducting...I want the acoustic as ROBSTERB explains above.

If you check those GOOGLE hits - they are explanations and not offers of sale. The only for sale item there that IS acoustic duct is for whole house fans, those ducts measure 16". I just want 6" acoustic duct.

I'm beginning to think that the real acoustic duct is not available in the USA. I can get INSULATED duct all day long. My concern is the noise that will come through the vent, not the noise that will go through the duct line. I need it to be quiet.
