Adding a new LIGHT?

I've got too much time on my hands and had been doing some after the purchase research. And now I'm wondering..

Should I add an additional light or switch them out all together?

In a 4x4 grow tent, I am running the Mars Hydro TS 3000. Its a nice light. I had previously ran a HPS 400 without a tent.

I doubt there is anyway I could add my 400HPS in the tent and keep a safe distance from the sides, keep good coverage and do a fairly level grow.

BUT, what if I were to add the Mars Hydro SP 3000? I could see both of these lights fitting and running together at the same height.


I could see sometime selling the TS and getting a second SP, I don't know...

I'm not sure that i understand clearly. You are thinking to hang a new sp3000 with an existing ts3000?

That is correct. In a 4x4 tent.

It will work to increase the light intensity on the canopy. The distribution of the light will be weird, maybe with a hot spot where the footprints of the lights overlap each other. Just me mindful of that.

Put the 400 you have in another tent and use as a veg tent?

I don't want hotspots, didn't think of that...

I want to pack the floor of my tent with a good solid canopy, SCROG style.

What is driving the difference in veg and flower footprint for these lights? Why is a certain light good for 5x5 veg but only 4x4 flower? Does this plant like more power for the flower stage? Would a better option be to drop a 1000 hps in for the flower ? For less upfront cost I can bring home a decent digital ballast, sealed hood and light for the 1000HPS.

I have read about the light and co2 requirements and that I can not out do one without paying attention to the other, I don't want to add CO2 at this time.

My fan is plenty big enough to handle the 1000W, i believe.
