Adding an Electrical Socket

Has anyone done this? It doesn't seem too difficult...it would definently help with the wires coming out of the closet.

easy way is to run one extension lead into the closet and plug in a 4 or 6 outlet powerboard.

That's how I have it right now but that still leaves me with the myserious orange extension cord leading into the closet.

ok, drill a hole in wall and feed the extension lead in that way? through roof probably easiest depending on how its setup.

do you have power in one of the closet walls?

Do you mean plug an extension cord into an existing socket and then drill a hole through the wall...then drill a second hole through my closet and have the extension cord come out there?

The thing is I don't want to use extension cords any more. I want to have a real plug in the wall in my closet. I'm just wondering if anyone has ever installed an electrical outlet and how difficult it is because it seems fairly simple...

I have a computer plugged into an outlet on the opposite side of one of the closet walls.

electrician at your service. just did the same thing and put it on a 20 amp breaker for my 1000w and 400w setup. go to your local hardware store. get a roll of 12-2 romex , a cut in box , a receptacle and a receptacle cover. tell the guy exactly what your trying to do but dont mention closet. tell him your adding a outlet in the kitchen. when youve done this get back at me . the next part requires labor. especially if you have a crawlspace under the house. unless you pull up your carpet and run the electrical cord underneath the carpet.

Sweet! How much will all this cost? This on the second floor, too, so perhaps I could go through the attic instead of the crawlspace..?

the wire is fairly cheap (sold by the Foot or Metre) a single pole 20 amp breaker is around 15(CAD), box and actual outlet $1-2 each . depending on how far u have to run the wire will determine total cost, if your running a fair distance id maybe even up the wire to 10-2(higher guage wire) but than again im no electrician, ur other option if you are just using say cfl's or any other low wattage light would be to just junction it into a wire that is run to a circuit with little or no electrical draw on it(just make sure the breaker is off when u do this), would save on the $15 for the beaker and opening up the actuall panel and installing a breaker
