Adding Sugars

I was reading an article about plants turning purple. It suggested that this happens as nights get colder and plants start breaking down chlorophyll into sugars...

My initial thought was, could my plant use supplemental sugars when nights start getting colder, or is it better to let the plant start burning up the chlorophyll? Is this a sign of the time to stop supplementing sugars?

I’m not a fan of adding sugars personally I think it’s partly bro science they’re not that needed imo and they seemed to make the smoke a bit harsher when I’ve used them even molasses.

Edit:
If there’s a temperature differential with colder temps at night that might be all you need to help bring out the sugars.

Ill probably sound like a geek bringing this up but here’s a study that was done on strawberries.
They tested temp DIF from 6 degrees C to 14 degrees C and found that a temp DIF of 12 degrees C brought out the most sugars and the best yield.

Adding molasses can increase bud size up to 25% bigger. Ive always used during flowering.. the sugar isnt going to the plants.. its being broke down by microbes in the soil which in turn feeds your plants.. it also adds iron, magnesium, potasium.. and afew other things.. you should stop using it though 2 weeks or so before harvest..

EDIT: unsulferd molasses ( black strap)

Yes, adding molasses will provide some microbe food

No, adding molasses will not result in 25% larger buds

Have you done an A/B test?

I personally think "purpling" of cannabis is a product of the constant and rapid hybridization it's being subject to by all of us. No rhyme or reason really, it's just "engrained" into its makeup. I grew some testers and one pheno was mostly green with some purple leaf tips, the other one turned my bong water crimson when I smoked it.

Please post it up. I tried with 2 blue dream in flower side by side and I saw no difference but neither were stellar plants either so who knows.

I still don’t get the “ Purple Hype “ lately.…. It doesn’t really bolster the profile , mostly flavonoids ( pigments ).
As I mentioned on few of these threads - it’s great for the photography and lame IG posts. If the strain expresses ( fall colors or purp ) then no need to push it. Had dark purp plants both flower and fans - it was kind of meh in smoke department. BK runs those Rozays and hear that is a heavy aromatic profile.

You and your flowers would benefit more from KELP for the anthocyanins and auxins . I would rather have the increased overall plant benefit other than coloring. I had a solid report to post but figured this excerpt about tomatoes ( similar ) would suffice. But to each their own.

But if you want to try something - your plants your rules.
