Advantage V. disadvantage CFL's

So far it doesn't look good for CFL, at least fo my strain. I moved the CFLs out of the way to take the pics, they are usually right down on the plants. I've decided to switch up my little experament some. I'm going to hook up my HPS for half of the garden, the other half CFL. I still have 2 to 3 weeks of flowering to go, which is when my buds usually start to have a growth spurt. Hpepfully I will get a good idea of the difference between the two light types.

Here are some pics. Keep in mind that this strain is a little stemy even under HPS, the buds are usually bigger by now though. It looks like the CFL buds will still have some crystals, but under HPS they look like someone dipped them in sugar.

EDIT: The little CFL in the background is a 12 volt 5 watt bulb. I have 4 of them in the room. They are connected to a battery that is charged by solar panels. If the power goes out it won't be close to bright enough to grow under, but it will help prevent interupting the plants light cycle.

in defense of cfl growers, i have managed a nice yeild with minimal setup, i will post pics soon, i have 4 plants flowering at all times, i get about 1.5 ounces a plant., but i have bud every 4 weeks, I also water cure my weed which is the smoothest smoke you will ever enjoy!

All these math equations are out of this world. I can't comprehend it.
So just answer me this: How do CFLs REEAAALLYYY stand up against HPS?

why do people always try saying hps and mh are hot my aircooled 1000w is always at 78 F but that is amazing you claim to get 42oz's with 18 cfl's every 4 months cause i only get about 32 every 2 months but if you only use 420-680 watts you pull about 2.8 grams per watt hats off to you thats the highest i've ever heard of
I would like to hold those buds in my hands for inspection and smoke some to see if the "equal quality" is there .. I find it very hard to believe... I have used both and although the buds look nice and appear to grow well under the cfl`s they are airey and have very little crystal on them as compared to the HPS or Halide lights .. but ,, they are far more available to the average grower and they are going to defend their methods ...
Bottom line ,, no matter what ,, they are simply NOT as good ,, definitely not going to get the same nice tight nuggets covered in crystal as you would using proper lights.. wonder why Arjan and Franko dont show videos of their nice babies being grown under cfl`s >>?? lol

No comparison. HPS hands down.
I have 400 watt MH/HPS and a separate 315 watt Full Spectrum CFL array, which I run at the same time, with different plants. I also have a separate vegging box which uses 4 X 23 watt CFL's and 2 X 20 watt Flouros.

The HID produces many times more bud.
The CFL's work very well on Indicas and produce dank bud, just not as many.
And the CFL's are killer for vegging or clones.

Just my $ 0.02

I have been, and always will use florescent lights to clone and veg. No problems there as long as you keep them close. But after this last grow, using CFLs to flower, I will never flower under florescents again. Under HPS I average 1.5 ounces per plant, after I cut out all the stems. Under CFLs I got barely over 2 ounces from SIX plants. It was still good smoke, but the buds didn't weigh shit. It was a hell of a hit to my wallet, and is an experament that I will not try again. I will use the CFLs as supplemental lighting, because I have them now, but will never again use them as a primary light source for flowering. There is a reason all of the big growers use HPS, they just work the best. That is, if you want big dense buds.

wow this is supposed to be a site where stoners can come together and push forward the production and future of cannabis by helping each other and encouraging each other. However for the past 66 pages yall aint done nothing but bash each other and brag over whose got better shit and whose setup is the best....if someone wants to get on here and say there harvest is a little bigger than it actually is so fuckin what...i think were all at least a little guilty of talkin up our harvest a little bit now and then...next time just ignore it and dont drag it on for 66 pointless pages, cause theres actually people on here who want to learn and want to help others learn....its really an insult to all the people who actually are seeking knowledge and those who are giving knowledge, when yall go on with a bullshit post like this....just stop all this mindless posting and lets get these forums back to what there truly here for, and thats the progression of the knowledge of Gods gift to man, the cannabis plant!!!!
