Hey MK, your right they look very happy in there. You will need to flush sometime. Those AG nutes have a lot of salt build up. Simple flushing helps with that. The Canna nutes are good stuff much cleaner.

Thanks Mr. N. I'll try a flush the next time nutes are needed.
What effect does the salt build up have?

The build up can lead to a nutrient lock out. The plant will stop feeding and suffer all kinds of problems. But there is a fix for that.

Day 26.

Well you might think I am crazy but I topped the bigger plant yesterday! I know it's not supposed to be a good idea to top Autoflowering plants, but hey you only live once and a few people have had good results with it on RIU! :-P
I used some rooting powder on the bit I cut off the top to see if I can get that to grow as a clone and stuck it in a jiffy pellet. If it works out I am gonna try that in soil as I don't want more than two plants in my aerogarden. Might even plant it outside if things go well.

Here are some pics from today (day after topping the plant on the left using Uncle Bens method)....

Hey Lukey,
I am hoping that they won't outgrow the aerogarden as they have lowryder genetics! If they do then my plan would be to use some CFL's. I want to see how far I can take the aerogarden by itself...

Autoflower, they deserve to have some darkness... but 12/12 is pathetic for an autoflower. Best giving as much light as possible without being rude to the roots. The darkness will give the roots time to grow and the plant time to rest. 12/12 is way too much rest for an auto.... so go with 20/4

Topping them doesn't seem to be bad. From my personal and friends experiences with autos, you can top them and they seem to just take longer to transition into flower. They become much bushier. But I'd probably recommend Low stress training over topping. Tie the plants down to the lid of the aerogarden reservoir. You can use foild duct tape to anchor down some ties. Try to have all the plants tied down in the same direction, either clockwise or counter clock wise.

For experimental purposes:
Top one,
Low stress train the other around the perimeter of the reservoir and around the bushy topped plant in the center. Viola

The Aerogarden classic which is the one I have can be extended to a maximum of around 35cm (14 inches). Check this out:
http://www.aerogarden.org.uk/forum/2008/05/20/aerogarden-extending-the-height-of-the-lamps/

You can apparently buy an extension arm to make it go higher but I'll probably just hang the hood from the top of my cabinet or just replace it with CFL's.

Lookin good MK..Good luck withthe clone....
Thanks Mr. N. The topped plant seems to be slowely responding so if the clone works out as well I'll be a happy kitty! :-o

Well folks its day 31 and things are ticking along nicely. The topped plant (on the left) has responded well to being topped and appears to be doing well. Still waiting to see if the topped part (clone) will take root. It hasn't died yet anyway so I'm still hoping.

Plants are starting to drink a lot at this stage. I need to top up the resevoir every day now.

Lookin good MK, might want to think about some LST. They are easier to bend when they are still young. I had to fill my res twice a day at the end, that is one of the AG's short comings. The roots will almost fill the reservoir not much room left for water.

This is a nice grow I'm currently trying out the aerogarden so far I'm at week 3 using snow white from nirvana since it's good for hydro setup I just topped it off since it was hitting the lights on the hood I'm also currently working on a grow can I made myself and going to cover it with Mylar and continue to use the aero hood to see how far I can take her but come summer I'm planting ak-48 outdoors

Thanks. Yeah, I'm interested to see how far the basic aerogarden set up can go too.

Hi All

I'm at day 36 now and the non-topped plant has started to flower. I have the aerogarden lights at their limit now so I'm going to have to get creative in the next few days - i'll probably hang the hood from the top of the cabinet.

The topped plant still has a bit of catching up to do before it flowers so I am holding off on the flowering nutes until it gets there, the AG nutes seem to be working OK so far.

Well guys, In the last few days this is what happened:

1) The bigger (non topped) plant reached the aerogarden hood (23cm high = 10 inches) :wall:
2) I removed the hood and hung it from the top of the cabinet
3) I threw in a 35W 2700K CFL to help with flowering
3) The topped plant has also started to show female flowers

I'll update with pics in the next couple of days.....

Looking good MK, hows the clone?
Hey Mr. N,

The clone is still alive but not doing much (see pic). It's from the very top of the plant where hormones are at their lowest and apparently cuttings from this location are the most difficult to clone. Well - it hasn't died yet, but I'm not expecting much at this stage! ;-)
