Aerogarden, My First Grow

Hi all,

Since i got all my info from this board it feels correct to post here a small journal that i kept about my grow.

As you can see i had a lot of problems during my startup fase but everything turned out really well. The plant drinks about 2.5 Litres each day and at this point im 4 weeks into flowering fase.

The plant is from a WSS Skunk seed and yeah maybe the plant is to big for this machine but it seems to just fit. The nutrients i use are called Cannes Vega and Flower. The seed was planted on 26th february

Ill update this thread with some more info if needed and when i have some more time to do so.

Lathieza: congratulations. Your WSS Skunk- Would you mind telling us a little bit about it, like what your source was and how tall it grows? Thanks.

Off course i can. But to be honest... i dont know much about the plant. This is the website i ordered from, when you hover over the images you can get some info and im pretty sure you can translate the symbols yourself
http://weedseedshop.com/wiet-zaden/vrouwelijk/WSS-Skunk-Gefeminiseerd-5.html

I can translate the last sentence of the info tab which is also the most important of the two. "This Skunk provides a very interesting yield for such strong kind"

Tbh i went for this plant because of the price, im low on money and because it was my first grow i didnt wanted it to cost me loads of money if i failed.

More interesting for me is how you guys think my flowers are looking? I am now in the 4th week of the flowering fase and i dont use any boosters. I'm planning to flower for at least another 6 weeks if possible.

I use a 250W CFL flowering lamp (and 250W CFL VEG for vegetation fase) and since a week i started to use the Aerogarden lamps from the side.

Lathieza: for what it's worth, I think you're doing it right.Be sure to log in everything you do and it will be easy on your next grow. A lot of the guys you read about here push their plants and try to get to harvest too soon. The hydro classes I'm taking tell us how to do that for commercial viability but the instructors agree that flavor and potency suffer.

I noticed you're using different lighting. Admittedly it's probably better than what the Aerogarden has out of the box but I don't like paying for the kilowatt hours. I found that with Mylar reflectors I can get buds all the way down to the planting deck with no further expense for electricity. The progressive light schedule I was taught takes 16 to 17 weeks to harvest but you end up with some good tasting potent meds. Please keep us posted on your progress. HSA

New week (5th week flowering counting from light switch) since my last post so i thought lets update it again with some pictures.

As you can see the first hairs start to get orange/brown allready and it goes pretty fast also.... Good sign/bad sign? I thought it would happen a bit later. Anyway i hold a dvd cover next to one of the tops to let you guys see what size it currently has.

Im wondering if i can still flower for 4/5 more weeks at least?

Hey Lathieza,
Looking good, thanks for sharing! Looks like your buds are starting to fill in, which is great.
I screwed up a little with my grow and didn't use enough lights (just the AG hood for most of the grow) and my buds aren't filling in as much as I would like.

Yeah in the beginning i also had some startup problems. I used the wrong feeding and the light was to less for my taste. You can clearly see in my first pictures i had a serious nute burn but happily i could recover with the help of this board. On the moment i started to use Cannes Vega and the other light my plant got a health boost. I still hope the buds will fill in a bit more because i still think they can do much better. Maybe this is the result of not using any additional blooming booster then Cannes Flower? Anyway... im sure im gonna do better next time :)

Your plant looks good bro, nicely done for your first time. I hope my plants look that good in my aerogarden/fogger i built. Questions: What is your feeding look like? How often and how much? I plan on using the same nutes (canna) and was just tring to get an idea. Also how offten are you changing your water out while using canna nutes?

I kinda messed up the feeding in the beginning because i used dried pigeonshit...lol. :(
Anyway the next time im gonna use the Cannes feeding from the start on but on lower doses then i use now. Currently i use 3-4ml feeding A and 3-4ml B for each 1.5 Litres. I fill it each day on with bottles so i can make a couple ahead. In the first weeks i cleaned my reservoir each week but since i got to the blooming fase i didnt do it anymore. Currently i feed the plants everytime i have to fill the reservoir but during the complete grow i allways used one bottle with feeding and when i had to refill again i used a bottle water with only PH. Hope this answers your questions.

I had to cut him down today.... i allready couldnt use the pump for 2 weeks because it was completely jammed with roots. And exactly at that point where the roots got stuck it started to rot. Anyway i think i only missed out for about a week blooming so my yield should be still okay.
I was pleasantly surprised when i saw what i still took off but ill give you guys a total amount when its dried.

Friends: FYI if you're growing with an Aerogarden you have to grow small and few. From my experience one or two plants fit well. Trying to grow three has proven to be more work than it's worth. My Aerogardens have up grade kits so I'm limited to growing plants 23 inches tall. At that point you can bend them over and train them. Your small Indica strains seem to grow well.

One thing I can't see is messing with the lighting. You have a complete growing system and enough lighting if you use it right. Some friends have added additional lighting to the point that their grow looks like a snake pit of wires and it becomes a electrician's nightmare or cords. I made some light weight Mylar covered reflectors and got buds all the way down to the planting deck with only the three lamps in my hoods. Some of my friends continue to use mirrors but they're heavy and hard to control and when you break one, if you're lucky enough not to get cut, you'll have a mess on your hands.

Fogging around any electrical appliance worries me. The Aerogarden's electrical contacts aren't sealed. An aquarium air pump with an air stone usually gives you what you need.

You might want to try a progressive light schedule on your next grow. Start with 20 hours of light and four hours of darkness. Reduce the light by one hour each week and increase the dark by one hour each week. You'll probably like the results.

What nutes are you using? You sounded kind of worried at the start of your grow but you have to agree that our favorite herb is pretty tough. Maybe that's why they've been around for the last few million years.

Looking good buddy.....i got some WSS too but am outdoors in the south of France and they are growing stonkingly well though i am at day 72 and still no sign of any flowering at the moment.(how long did yours take to flower?) hope to post some pics soon.

looks great, i just hope u def got a clone of that . its def a great mother, and as for the hairs, its ok to be turing a little aloready.. your doing great dont change what u doing, i have a question tho, what nutes did u use ?
