AeroGarden Problem With Male Plants (Removal or Trim-Down)

Hey everyone,
My plants are starting to show there sex now and I think out of 4 Power Skunks I got 1 female. I also have 1 female Violator Kush and 1 female White Widow. I dont want the males to fertilize but I dont think I can remove them since all the roots are tangled in the resivior.

I have heard I can just trim the males really nicly and just keep cutting the males balls off. Do you all think this is the best thing to do? Or does anyone else have a better idea?? How much can I trim the plant down without it dieing???

i'm pretty sure I read somewhere that someone did the same thing. Just trim them up but enough to where they will still live.

Yeah man, like my boy Volcom said. If i chop the males at the base the roots will die and end up killing my females. I cannot remove the male roots, because there intertwined and tangled with all the females.

Although I would love to just get-rid of the males for good its not that simple.

This was my first grow with the AeroGarden and I learned so much about it. The #1 thing being that you should only grow Feminized out of it and no more than 3 plants! But hey I gotta salvage the 2 1/2 months of growing I have already been doing!

Anyone got any other idea's???

This is what i did to the male. I hope it dose ok....LOL I think its pretty funny actually,,,, it wont be of course if it dies haha but its funny for now. I cut off everything but the main stem and the stems leading to the fan leaves. I left the fan leaves too of course!

I did this yesterday and it still looks healthy. Hope the fucking nut-sack servives! LOL

looks good to me, it should be fine if you stay persistent and make sure you tackle all those nuts before they mature, looks like youve got it down though

Hey, I did an Aerogarden grow on here over the winter and ran into the same issue. I had 2 males in my AG, and I just cut them at the bottom of the stalks, disposed of the male plants, then went back and cut the roots out of the resevoir. Those long ass roots at the bottom aren't as sensitive, and I was told it was okay as long as you don't hack too much on the females. Anyways, after picking roots out for a while i got it all clean, and I never got root rot. I actually yanked the little pod out and took scissors to the root mass, then cleaned the rest out. Afterwards, i put duct tape over the empty holes so no light would get in the resevoir. Good luck with it, but I wouldn't leave those males there.

Oh and also, another reason I'd recommend getting that male out of there is because the roots will become an issue in that small resevoir. Here's a pic of just one of my female's roots after harvest. I wouldn't want more than 1-2 of those plants in that small res. at a time, just because it's only 1 gallon and they will suck your water up quick. I couldn't imagine finishing with a bunch of mature plants in there.

I did the exact same thing yesterday. So far they still look alive.
If nothing else now I know not to put so many in at a time.

Oh god, you're getting into some risky business, those balls can completely regrow overnight and next thing you know, BAM!!! your beautiful ladies are gonna be knocked up and seedy as shit. get some tweezers and seperate the roots by hand if you have to, just get those fucking guys out of there unless you want 1000 seeds and a gram of bud.

Yep a few of those little balls grew back alright. I just picked them off again.
It's pretty amazing how I can hack up the thing and it just keeps on ticking.
I have a total of 10 in my AG and the roots are completley entangled.
I know, WAY too many for the AG. Lesson learned.
After about 2 weeks of flowering, 2 are males (hacked to shit now) the other 8 haven't shown anything yet so I'd hate to f it all up now.
I check them a least twice a day for new balls.
I definitley learned a lot from this though (First time).
