Aeroponic Medium vs. No Aeroponic Medium

Hello RIU Community.
Being in this category, I obviously have decided to run an Aeroponic garden. Duh. So the thing in debate is whether to use a medium or not. As an example, StinkBud's "Harvest a Pound Every Three Weeks" in which he does not use a medium. StinkBud simply puts a neoprene plug around the stem. Or whether I should use those clay agrogate pebbles in the netpots.

i usually receive clones in small rockwool cubes, which can be put into small net pots, or into bigger net pots with some hydroton around it, either way is good

a few other people i've seen use coco as well, i would imagine you would want some support for when the plants get larger..
