Air conditioning solutions

I just have em set to a thermostat that kicks em on when the temp gets to a certain point.

Although what Panhead wrote above is really good info about digital 8000btuers'
Guess I should really learn to read threads fully before I go a postin.

Hi all,

Just curious, but is it possible to connect an air-cooled reflector to an air conditioning unit? This way you could cool the light and provide temp/humidity control for the grow space. Simply put, an air conditioner ducted to the reflector would blow cold air over the light and into the grow space.

Um its kinda possible if you can figure out ducting, but I dont see it as efficient means of cooling lights.

Also It is possible that it would be fine just running an AC for the room with no air cooling lights.

It depends on your particular setup, what temps your getting ect.

also remember cold air sinks hot air rises.

well i was thinking if i blew cold air from an ac into one end of the hood i'd have a light/ac combo unit. planning on a 4 plant, 1 600w mh/hps grow tent space. figured it'd get mad hot and i'd need ac anyway so maybe 2 birds w/ 1 stone (all puns intended).

You would probally be just fine with the ac unit on the floor to be honest.

I love 600watts because there heat is pretty easily controlled.

But in essence what your saying would work me thinks.
If you can figure out ducting.

as far as ducting goes, think of a cooltube with ac air coming in and the other end (in the tent) is open allowing the ac to blow over the light and into the tent. of course i'd have additional vent fans for air circulation but thats it. what do you think? no need for some super cfm fan to help with cooling just need a fan for circulation.

I dont even think you need to nessecarily blow air into the cooltube at all!

Just run the AC, I mean you only have a single 600 watter.

Whatever you choose to do , you will be fine.

i guess if i keep the room cold enough i can blow cool air into the tent with a reg vent system. well just wondering if it could be done. thanx for your input GanjaGoddess (funny i'm looking for one of those too a ganjagoddess that is-lol)

I found a 450 portable AC unit on craigs list and got the lady down to $175 from $250.

it made a dramatic difference. (set temp down to 64% sicne the shed is uninsulated -- for now ... ) the hottest i have gotten was 83 and it as 101 outside -- so it is a mager improvement.

the plants are lookign healthier to - seems they want to grow (new growth almost instantly formthe change in temp).

thank god for craigs list and hte portable AC unit the lady's mother in law doesnt want anymore.
