Air Pump Siphoning

Has any one had there air pump siphon water, when it is lower than the water level. I every pump comes with a warning about this, but they sell these check valves for $2-3 a piece. Seems like someone is make a lot of money on them.

little plastic tube....comon', where else can you get them cheaper?

Seriously? Does anyone put a check valve on there air lines in a DWC setup?

I don't use a check valve but I did see that one day my pump was full of water and had to pull the tubbing out and drain the water. But that has jsut happened to me one time only and never had a promblem again.
