alcahol abuse compared to weed

I live in an apartment and last night my neighbour, around 32-33 years old came home at 3 am drunk out of his mind, spent a whole hour outside his door trying to get inside as he was so drunk he could not turn the key and open the door.

He ended up running up to his front door trying to kick down his front door around 7 times, failing each time as he was too drunk ( he is a big guy almost 7 foot) he was shouting at the door and making a lot of noise. I woke up aswell as my girl and my other neighbours on the same floor.

At this point id like to add he works as a real estate agent, drives a good car, lives in a good area of town and is married with a newly born daughter.

My point is how can any government justify the legality of such a substance when it quite clearly is the main cause of violence, anger and social domestic problems.

This man has a daughter which is barely 2-3 months old, and he is too busy out getting drunk and making a fool out of himself, how could anyone be so irresponsible?

I will also point out i live in the UK where drink is a very big problem and almost everyone drinks to get smashed on a daily basis.

I on the otherhand am a 21 year old student, who tokes weed and never drinks (possibly when i go clubbin but thats it) and up to this day i have yet to cause such unrest or annoyance to my neighbours.

Which brings me to conclude, why are we as tokers outlawyed because we smoke mary jane? I have yet to start a domestic with my girl because i am too high to argue most of the time.

I dont start fights with people nor do i go out looking for them, however this is common amongst drunks.

I really think its disgraceful the current view on marijuana around the world not just by government but also the public. Yes we know the dangers, just as we do with alcahol and pretty much everything in life, but its all about managing the danger and not missusing.

lol, i was you. Same age same deal same speech against liquor and for weed. 2 years later i became an alcoholic and now have terminal cirohsis. Lol, now i have to smoke the weed again for the pain condition i have aquired do to the alcohol. Back where i started. I dont drink no more. Nah, but liquor is the drug of drugs. This culture you get told what a good boy you are and you get the best thrill for your buck. I guess its easy to see that the best poison gets the best backing.

I agree, but i also feel no matter what any of us do at a personal level nothing will change at government level.

alcahol is easy to tax and make money off the public..

marijuana is not easy to tax as there are so many different types of weed, also u give police jobs to get "marijuana dealers"...

also i read this thing about, hemp that u had to grow it back 100 years ago for all the tings u can use it for, clothes, fuel etc...
but the oil companys brought out the propaganda against weed so they could use their raw materials... and that view is still around that marijuana is "bad" when if weed replaced beer the world would b a much better place..

what happened during alcohol prohibition??? people flipped... potheads just sat idly by (wasnt that many back then) when marijuana was prohibited... and now most of us still just accept being and living like criminals rather than standing up and demanding our rights.... oh, and ALL polititians drink..

I've been an alcoholic of sorts. At seventeen I was drinking nearly two full bottles (quarts?_750ml) of Southern Comfort (in the early 80's) a night.

I've also had years where I haven't drunk at all. I have never been a violent drunk, but probably pissed a few people of in my younger days by being a fuckwit having 'fun'. At the very least, I have never made an enemy due to alcohol.

I have been a big drinker on and off, nearly killing myself in a car rollover when I was 19. Nowadays I don't mind a Coopers Sparkling Ale on a hot afternoon, but won't drink more than three 'stubbies' at a time and rarely drink anyway. I much prefer to smoke at medicinal levels and not suffer from slow alcohol poisoning.

On the subject of government inaction in respect to cannabis. My opinion is that any form of pro-cannabis legislation, be it decriminalisation for home growing or whatever, will place pharmaceutical companies at risk of losing possibly billions in revenue. This will impact on government revenue from reduced taxes.

[WARNING-Rambling pro-cannabis rant ahead]
The big issue (in my humble opinion) is that pharmaceutical companies create specific drugs to treat specific afflictions, such as anti-inflammatories for swelling, and say, an opiate for pain. Then maybe another drug to lower your blood pressure. Cannabis has amongst other properties, an anti-inflammatory effect, an analgesic (pain relief) effect, as well as the ability to lower blood pressure (and in some cases raise it).
Underground grass roots medicinal growers are already producing strains to target specific conditions. Cannabis has the potential to make a HUGE impact into pharmaceutical profits if it legalised. Pharmaceutical companies can influence govt decision making because they are large and powerful economically speaking.
[End rant]

Alcohol earns governments huge amounts of money in excise, taxes and exports. The alcohol industry employs vast numbers of people from Hop farmers to truck drivers to barmaids. Millions of people rely on alcohol (the industry) to make a living either directly or indirectly. Like it or not, even though alcohol is a nasty poison, it will always be legal in one way or another. Sadly, alcohol will also kill thousands of people every year, and continue to create alcoholics of our children and theirs

...of course, we may one day get some enlightened world leaders that will change global opinion on cannabis to one of the respect it deserves...maybe...bongsmilie

GHED,
You are very wise for your years. It took me until my mid 30's to realize what a dangerous waste of time and money that alcohol is.
Alcohol kills people very regularly. It ages people, it makes them fat, angry and stupid. It is almost the exact opposite of marijuana.
Pot saves lives, cures cancer, makes people youthful, mellows them out and makes them think.
I know in the US, laws have changed quite a bit in the last 10 years, we are a lot better off than we were 20 years ago. Also, we didn't have RIU to teach us how to grow.
Hopefully your neighbors actions will help you remember to stay on the right track.

i have a social alcohol problem.... i CANNOT go out and have a few drinks... if i go out to drink somewhere, i dont leave until i am smashed... normally when they are closing the bar/club and escort my drunk self out.... but i have the opposite problem if i drink at home... i CANNOT get drunk at home.. cant even drink 3beers in one night... after wrecking my wifes car drunk recently, i vowed to never step foot in a bar without her, cause with her there, i wont get drunk either...

but im one of those guys like your neighbor when i get a full tank... yelling, belligerent, stupid, and almost violent... i dont like the drunk me, and neither does my wife... another thing that made me stop is my son... when i came in from my 7mile hike from the accident, i was going through the house on a tirade, yelling, kicking holes in doors, etc.... and even though i was piss drunk, i can still remember how scared my son was of dad... it makes me tear up right now just picturing his face and the fear that was in it.... that is a horrible feeling i would rather not have to have experienced... alcohol is the devil; but the devil is big business, never gonna get rid of it in human society.... sorry for the long post, had to share....

For the same reson that people would:
murder someone like John Lennon,
elect a man like george bush,
set people like OJ free,
kill a bunch of jews,
kill a bunch of black people,
or pay money to eat fish eggs as a delicacy.
Because if everything that we, as a race, did made perfect sense, clearly the world would be no fun any more.:weed:

Please stay home and don't drink. You really have a problem. Smoke lots of weed, it is totally safe for you. Your son will really respect you if you can manage to stop drinking. Probably your wife too.
If you don't stop drinking, you will end up hurting yourself and others very badly.

i am all to aware of this bro... but some of us have to learn hard lessons; wont listen to advice, must experience it... im only 23, so i was going through the whole bar kick.... been drinking at home for years and have NEVER gotten out of hand with that, but when i go out and drink socially, i turn into a beer/shot fish.... most of the time i'll only drink one beer... occasionally 3-4, but it is over the course of a whole day on the weekends or something.... hell, we have a full liqour cabinet for company, but i have never touched any of it, save to make a drink for guests... cant drink like that at home... something about the bar scene brings out the pitiful alcoholic in me....

thankfully my son is still too young to remember it.... i would like him to never see dad smashed... until he is old enough to get smashed with me, gotta do that with your kids at least once when they reach adulthood, but that is a loong way from here.... cant smoke weed right now either, but it is for the best...

im not holding my breath for it bro... i'll be shocked if he stops the raids on medical patients/caregivers like he vowed he would.... you think bill only smoked once.... and didnt inhale??? bullshit! he didnt change anything either.. they stroke our wankers enough to get voted in, no matter what they have to say to do it; then when they get elected, seems they forget all about those conversations, or come up with a reason why their hands are tied...:fire:

i guess thats what an apology sounds like from someone with their head up their ass, so i suppose i'll accept it... but you have no clue who i am or what i am about... dont wander around criticizing other people for their mistakes... i dont pop into your drama threads and make fun of you... have a little bit of respect for people.. i know damn well you dont always make the best decisions either... much less when you are drunk... and no, im not trying to excuse myself for my actions because of the alcohol; im man enough to admit when i have done wrong and made a mistake.. but i am also man enough to learn from them and attempt to try to pass that lesson on to other people before they have to learn the hard way.

not much bro... despite how i come across on here most of the time; i am human and do sometimes get offended and take things personally.... esp when called something such as "pathetic" twice... once in an "apology"... i try to be respectful on here, even when i am criticising someone or am pissed off, and i expect others to do the same... i am a man, a husband, and a father... and a good all three in my opinion, and to those that know me; and i dont take too fucking kindly to being referred to as "pitifully inferior or inadequate" (the definition of pathetic in the context you used it... as according to merriam webster)... im sorry if you cant understand that.
