Algae ISSUE and covering pot question.

So today is not my day. I woke up to issues I had not gone thru my first veg batch... who knows - but I noticed green algae/mold on the top of my medium (peat, vermiculite and lil perlite)

Humidity had been on the 55-65% and temps on 80-82F lately. I realize now I must have overwatered, although, I didnt notice the plants resenting it. I realize algae isnt that big of a deal, but it can be troublesome. I read i can cover the pot to stop the light from growing the algae and hydrogen peroxide (although i havent used peroxide yet). I just covered it with lava rocks and big perlite chunks and turned off my humidifier (now temps are 81F and 43% humidity - which i think its not ideal).

was covering them like that ok? or just futile on my end? suggestions for a fix?

(White spots on leaves is perlite dust that flew all over the plants and my lungs cus i had the fan on,:wall: )

MEDIUM: Peat, Vermiculite, Perlite.
Feeding: 20-10-20 Jacks (550 ppm) (I fed and cups weight 300g, i didnt feed again until they were at 200g, but I guess I had to wait more)
Lights: Lm301bs (300w to 50%)

Algae will grow with moisture and light. Both can occur with your perlite as well. In my coco grows where they are constantly kept wet it can grow on both the coco or perlite if you use it.

I went with these FloraFlex Matrix pieces to block light from the coco. They also aid in evenly distributing the feed to the medium. These flexible thin ones also conveniently fit exactly inside the diameter of my 3 gallon cloth pots. GL.
