get the highest wattage you can find. high wattage = more light = a happier plant. cool or daylight (the blueish ones) for veg, warm or soft (the orangish ones) for flower. the general rule of thumb is 3 lights per plant (for a smaller plant). happy growing, paul.

yeh, fortunately, CFL growing isnt an exact science. Basically just know this - its the same as HID growing when it comes to spectrum. You want blue spectrum for vegging, and red for flowering. Get some Daylight bulbs which burn whiteish blue for veg, and sunlight bulbs for flowering which burn more orange/reddish.

As far as wattage n how many you should get - Basically get ALOT, lol.

Depending on how many plants you wanna grow, id say get two 100w bulbs for each plant to start, and then work your way up, as the plant goes along. You have to feel it out n see what the plant likes. I grew my 1st plants starting out with three plants n two 150w daylight bulbs. N then as they grew, about 3 or 4 weeks in, i doubled that, n then 2 weeks later, got 4 more 45w daylight bulbs. For flowering, i picked up 4 150w sunlight bulbs, and they worked really well. Im still using them now to flower my 1st grow, but im bout to move them down to a 600w HID setup to finish them up n make them nuggets swell up. But if i were to leave them under the setup i have now( i left the majority of the blueish spectrum bulbs in my box, along with the redder ones, and the plants are thriving right now), they would still finish flowering with some nice thick, solid nugs, and a nice yield too.

so like i said, its not an exact science, least not for me. I dont really do the lumens count thing with CFL's, i just know the more the better, as long as your well ventilated, and the plants can take the heat, your alllllll good man.

good luck with the grow!!

I persoannly hate CFL's...my plants never grow fast,and all the leaves stay tiny under cfl's.....also,lumens dont add up..for example,if you have 5 42 w cfl's..and each is 2000 lumens..doesnt matter how much you have..only 2000 lumens will hit the plants..but wtih a greater coverage,and internsity...you get me?..so if you have 2 400 hps..there's only 55,000 lumens,but with a greater coverage all around..

nobody's gonna argue that hps aren't better than cfl, but cfl definitely has its purpose. they're better for different (smaller) grows. they can still get the job done. i've personally had decent success with my cfl grows.
