Already got the job offer letter -- will I need to pass a test?

I just got a job at a machine shop, but I'm handling administrative tasks and not operating any machinery. On the application it asked if I'd be able to pass a drug test, and on the bottom of the application it had a section for the employer to indicate whether the candidate passed a test. I anticipated having to do so when I began my job search and haven't lit up for 3 weeks in preparation. I just graduated from college though and smoked for 5 nights in a row prior to my stopping.

But two days ago I just got my offer letter. If I were to have to pass a test, would they have required me to do so before offering me the job? Or will they have me pass the test after I've formally accepted the offer?
 
Damn. I was afraid of that. By the time they get my response it'll be in the middle of next week, and about a month since I last smoked. Hopefully I'll have nothing to worry about by then.
 
i wouldnt be worried bro 3 weeks to a month is plenty of time if you went cold turkey i was just having this conversation with a friend of mine who is having to pass a DT for his medical school lol. i wouldnt sweat it

you should be clean by now. if you still worried, pick up some sonne no.7, which is liquid bentonite. that shit works wonders. but you won't need it cause you should be clean by now. having liquid bentonite on hand is always a good thing though, just in case you get those random suprise drug tests

What a paranoid fucked up world we live in. These drug test threads just piss me off.....Not the posters themselves but the whole freakin enchilada. Drug testing is such a blatant scam and afront to our rights as human beings. Worst part is I look at the job boards in my area and drug testing is starting to take hold up here in the Great White North. Thats right folks...Those lovely corporations that Mfg. Administer and analyze the tests have successfully lobbied our government to allow more testing up here. Eventually we are all going to have to stand together in order to defeat this practice.
 
Thanks for the replies all. I'm gonna get a kit to test myself, just to be sure. If for some reason I fail (I doubt I will) I'll probably sub with quickfix :).
And canuckgrow, I couldn't agree more. Pre-employment drug testing is having to prove "innocence" in a degrading fashion. And simply put, I don't, wont, and never will toke at work.
 
i never had a job tht ddrug tested. it seems so classless (and a privacy invasion) to give someone a drug test. i don't think i would want to work for a company that did that.

The majority of companies out there do it for all candidates. I probably looked at 6 different places while searching for a job and each had drug testing and/or a background check.
 
ive had background checks but it's pretty basic. you would have t be a felon to fail that. i've neve rhad a piss test and i've worked for some big, well-knnown corporations.
 
Taking the piss test tomorrow. It'll have been 3.5 weeks but to be sure I've been taking creatine (28 hours before the test) to prepare to dilute anyways. Never too sure :)
