Amber trichomes at week 8?

Unknown seed, from a dispensary ounce. This is my first grow.

Day 56 since flip, plant vegged for 8 weeks previously as a mother and had pistils and alternating nodes when it was flipped.

there were no new pistils for about a week, but I have a tiny bit of foxtail on a few buds that hit the light (poor planning on my part, like the scope) and they have shot out a few pistils each on those nubs

No scope yet, because I didn't expect to see amber on the buds yet. It's coming. But it sure looks under my phone like things are getting amber.

Am I right in pulling this plant? I'm not looking for a sedating stone, I'm a day smoker and like a buzzy cerebral high.

Any advice appreciated

So I guess other than the trichomes, I notice a few other things that might indicate that it’s ready. The calyxes have stopped swelling and are all as large as the single older calyxes. There is largely no more pistil production. The calyxes have turned purple in some areas. And the plant is not drinking much anymore, about half as much needed to run off as a week ago.

I don’t have any fade, but I haven’t reduced feed, I intend to reveg/regen.

I don’t know what I’m doing, though, to be fair.

It looks like most of it if not all the ambers are on sugar leaves, which doesn't mean much they always mature faster than on the buds

Not ready imo, id check again in maybe a week and go from there. Check the calyxs dont worry about the sugar leaves.

Thank you! Another week or so is about what I was planning on, I was surprised to see as many amber trichomes as I did.

I may be looking in the wrong place, where I’m seeing them is on the calyxes, unless I am calling these the wrong name? And I very well may be...

I’ll give it another week and see, I have other plants beside flipped at the same time that are very much not ready, so I don’t lose anything by letting it run out. I don’t have my room set up to harvest yet either.

I just don’t want to end up with a bunch of sleepy ass couch lock weed.

I have a loupe, I can't get a decent photo through it. This is about as good as I'll be able to show the forum.
The last pic will do.

I still see alot of clear and what you're looking for is trichomes that are cloudy or half cloudy.

The best I've read it described was glass vs plastic looking.

You have alot of glass, you want alot of plastic.

This one is pretty clear. I see a pretty high % amber... At least on this one bud. Keep in mind, tops will mature faster.

It’s still producing, and I see a pistol or two on the tops. I also see a bit of foxtailing. Close to light?

Thank you both! I'll run it to 10 and see :).

I am also going to try and order a cheap wifi digital microscope from Amazon. I previously bought a nice pocket scope from eBay that is taking forever to get here.

Hey lime73, thank you for this -- I have seen this, and spent hours reading on here. This is actually what confuses me, I have a high % amber on the tops, no new pistils except for a few foxtailing buds. 99% of the pistils are deep orange and have receded into the calyx. By this image I feel like it's ready for harvest. I've also had another forum tell me to chop asap. Although, there's a lot of terrible grow forums out there :).

I appreciate everyone's patience with all these harvest questions.

Knowing when to harvest is tricky at first, once you do a few Grows of the same strain, you'll have a better idea of when to chop.

...you can Take a small sample..
Each week and test it...may give you a reference point for this round?

Sorry, yes, a few (3) tops have just about touched the light. These plants got too big, they are 5ft tall easy. In my tent, and with my drainage setup, I can’t raise or lower anything. Is been a trip of a first grow, to have it all exceed expectations. I have 2 plants filling a 4x4.

I also have 30 clones ready to roll in veg room. I kind of messed up my timing a bit.

And just for fun, want to talk about amber, check out the amber (CBN?) content on this 6 year old jar of weed I have kicking around. It will put you right to sleep.

And finally, a very "glassy" shot of clear trichomes from my other plant, which is not nearly ripe.

Thank you for your advice lime73! I did just that, and tested out my drying room. I need to up the humidity a little or dry untrimmed, so I’ll play with that.

I picked a smaller side branch, so it is not an impressive bud, but when I vaporized some this morning I was very high for a few hours. it’s very physically and mentally buzzy, and strong. I am a medical user at 4-5g a day and this was very comparable to top shelf Canadian dispensary in effects.

Tasted way too fresh and uncured, though. Smoke was very harsh. I have been “jar curing” and storing purchased too-fresh weed for years so I’m sure it’ll smooth out after.

I think I’m also about to ditch the tent and build a room.
